Russia's defence ministry acknowledged on Wednesday that some conscripts were taking part in the conflict with Ukraine after President Vladimir Putin denied this on various occasions, saying only professional soldiers and officers had been sent in.

The ministry said that some of them, serving in supply units, had been taken prisoner by the Ukrainian army since the fighting began on Feb. 24.

Citing Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov, the RIA news agency said Putin had ordered military prosecutors to investigate and punish the officials responsible for disobeying his instructions to exclude conscripts from the operation.

A third of the Russian Army are conscripts.

The technical & maintenance battalions used to re-supply combat units and repair equipment make heavy use of conscripts

That is why the Ukrainian strategy of hitting fuel and other supply convoys has resulted in conscript casualties and POWs

Which is one of many reasons why Russia should not be allowed to subjugate 44 million Ukrainians.

If just 25% can fight, Russia can conscript them and add 11 million people to it’s military. And then who is next?

Ukraine conscripted all men between 18 and 60. They were grabbing them as they were trying to leave the country.

“And then who is next?”

Well, Belarus already gave that away by showing their map with the Russian plans on it on television. Moldova is next.

Conscription oh the horror. Bring back conscription and a lot of societal ills would be lessened. Israel relies on conscription

He must not upset those Russian mothers by getting their barely adult children killed for a one year obligatory term of service. Much better to get the sons of families that have already resigned to having their children be in the military as a career or as enlisted.

You can’t force people to sacrifice their lives for a cause they disagree with without threatening their loved ones.
