Another Eastern European Country Is Seeing Gun Sales Skyrocket After Russia's Invasion of Ukraine

Citizens of Lithuania are taking advantage of the country's relatively relaxed gun laws and are buying firearms in droves in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Euronews reported Lithuania gun stores are experiencing sales surging up to eight times and applications for gun licenses doubling, along with more people visiting gun ranges to brush up on their skills:

"Sales have shot up for all categories of weapons but the largest demand is for handguns used for self-defence and semi-automatic weapons that could also be used in military situations. Some stores have reported selling as many handguns in a week as during the preceding year.

...

"Many stores also report that they have run out of military-style gear such as night vision and thermal vision equipment, flak jackets and tactical clothes. The Lithuanian Defence and Security Industry Association has said that most of those goods have been bought to be sent to Ukraine as privately funded military assistance.

"In stores, handguns cost around €600 while semi-automatic rifles around €2,000. Second-hand guns sell online for just over half the price."

"Many more clients are coming. they buy semi-automatic rifles - unfortunately, I have no more to show them, I sold them out - and handguns,” said gun store manager Gytis Misiukevicius.

Gun licenses in the face of a Russian invasion are the ultimate in stupidity. The first thing the Russians do is go to the police station, seize the gun license list, and then go seize the guns.

All European countries, not just in the east, should lift all license requirements, especially for long guns.

I was in Lithuania two years ago. The Russians constantly accuse everyone who opposed Russian occupation of Lithuania from 1992 as a Nazi, Nazi symp, or Neo Nazi. Their logic is that the Russians themselves kicked out the Nazis during WW2 (then refused to leave all their new satellites for over 50 more years). Therefore, if you don’t appreciate the new Russian occupation for liberating you from the Nazis, you must be a Nazi (or antisemite) yourself. Very strong and constant information operations.

Constantly accuse everyone who opposes you of being a Nazi?

You might be a Democrat.

Maybe that is where Putin’s boys learned the trick.

Odd, Lithuania is an EU country, and the EU demands that individual countries harmonize their gun laws to the EU standard, which is very restrictive.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Directive_(EU)_2021/555

Directive (EU) 2021/555 is a legal act of the European Union which sets minimum standards regarding civilian firearms acquisition and possession that EU member states must implement into their national legal systems. It codified Council Directive 91/477/EEC of 18 June 1991.

OMG! Just wait for the numbers of drive-by shootings in crowded inner-urban areas to skyrocket! Criminality in the "Projects" will get out of hand!

South Vilnius will be flooded with "evil" handguns, and...

Oh, wait: You say there aren't any what? in Lithuania?

Sor-rry!

You mean like the Russians are now doing in the Ukraine?

No, didn't think so!

My point EXACTLY. The Russians are apparently unable to invade a country and immediately proceed to City Hall to fetch the lists of gun registrations!

The Ukrainians not only destroyed their gun records in 2015 they have not kept records of the small arms they’ve handed out in the current conflict.

Also, I laugh myself silly every time I see the invading scumbag Russians die at the hands of the Ukrainians.

It’s fun to watch them burn!

“...Now find ammo for them.” [rktman, post 1]

Lithuania is home to Giraites Ginkluotes Gamykla [GGG https://www.ggg-ammo.lt/en], manufacturer of ammunition. Only such plant in the region; principal products appear to be 5.56 NATO and 7.62 NATO; also components. Many sales to NATO and various Western nations. Civil sales also; some has been imported into USA.

Unanswered question: what are Lithuanian rifles chambered for?

“Gun licenses in the face of a Russian invasion are the ultimate in stupidity. The first thing the Russians do is go to the police station, seize the gun license list, and then go seize the guns.”

Well, if it is that easy to scare you off, just turn your guns in now!

WOW! Using boxer primers rather than the traditional Berdan primers.

“Constantly accuse everyone who opposes you of being a Nazi? You might be a Democrat. Maybe that is where Putin’s boys learned the trick.”

They are typical leftists projecting their own actions into everyone else and accusing them first. Truly demented.
