Ukraine's military, giving an overview of combat as the war enters its 13th day, said Russian advances have 'slowed significantly' even as US intelligence says Putin has now committed '100 per cent' of the force he assembled on the border into battle without making significant territorial gains since late last week.
Defensive operations continue in the north, east and south of Ukraine, the military said, with all major cities other than Kherson - which fell last week - in Ukrainian hands. Russian troops are 'demoralised and increasingly tend to looting and violations of international humanitarian law,' commanders added.
It has also emerged that another Russian commander - Major General Vitaly Gerasimov, first deputy commander of Russia's 41st army - was killed in Kharkiv on Monday, just the latest in an increasingly long line of senior military figures to lose their lives in Ukraine.
Ukrainian forces said Tuesday they had repulsed a Russian attack on Izium city in the Kharkiv region, and outgunned troops have been trying to hold back a Russian push up from the east and south in an attempt to encircle Kyiv.
Russian forces 'suffered losses and retreated' in Izium after they 'reigned terror in the city by bombing civilian premises and infrastructure,' the military said.
One Ukrainian paratrooper told of 'hand-to-hand' combat in Irpin, saying 'we are trying to push (Russian soldiers) out, but I don't know if we'll be fully able to do it'.
An international legion of volunteers has descended on Ukraine to fight the Russians.
But the Pentagon said Monday that Moscow was on a recruiting mission for its own foreign fighters - Syrians who fought for President Bashar al-Assad.
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday said he will not send conscripts or reservists to fight in the conflict.

Putin bet on a quick fold, cut and run, and horribly miscalculated. That’s what happens when you believe your own BS and surround yourself with yes men.
9-13K killed is pure speculation. But given the number of vehicles detroyed plus admitted losses of senior officers its perfectly plausible to say they’ve had 9-13K casualties (killed+wounded).
I’ve also been reading reports that Russian Field commanders and a couple of generals, one named Maj. Gen. Vitaly Gerasimov was killed near Kharkiv. It’s probably because Russian communication equipment is shit and officers have to be on the front lines for command and control.
That is where a good officer is.
No a Rear Echelon M F
The casualty numbers are a bit extreme as estimated by each side, but one dynamic seems to be taking shape.. this conflict is settling into a long grind and an insurgency… something Putin hadn’t counted on. The longer this drags on, the more resistance to it at home. Time is not on Putin’s side.
My goodness, what a shrill headline. Sometimes the Daily Fail is right on the money, but quite often, they’re the very embodiment of British yellow journalism.
I don't buy it, but I have no clue as to the truth.
Either way, the modern European battlefield is very deadly. Modern shoulder fired missiles have turned the tables on armor and aircraft.
“Putin appears to be sensitive to potential widespread public opposition in Russia, and claims he’s not using draftees for the operation. You gotta wonder why it seems to be bogging down.”
They are mostly draftees, who were forced to sign a contract before the invasion.
Only one unit involved in the invasion is “professional”, and that’s the elite 4th Guards “Kantemirovites” Tank Division.
They’re allegedly, the best trained, best equipped, hand picked, politically reliable, professional soldiers (along with their sister unit 2nd Taman Guards Motorized Rifle Division), and it speaks volumes as to the true state of the Russian military that they’re getting their asses handed to them, and why Putin is full of bluster about going nuclear.
“I dunno about that. I’ve seen videos of long columns just decimated.”
The one thing I can’t understand is Russia launching their invasion when they did.
Russia probably knows more about winter warfare than any other country. Especially in their neck of the woods. They joke that General Winter is their most effective Officer.
They also know about the spring thaw that turns the ground into a pig pen that armor and trucks are useless in, leaving only paved roads useful for troops and logistics. Paved roads that can easily be blocked by determined defenders using anti armor munitions.
Not since Hitler delayed Operation Barbarossa has the world seen a military FUBAR a situation this badly.
Well, after this no one will fear the Russian army. Heck, even France and Italy might feel a little froggy when it comes to Ivan.
Daily Mail is always good for a laugh.
not surprised that this globalist propaganda is coming from an anti-Trumper.. Sure - only one side has losses. LOL = no its not bogged down. It looks that DPL fell yesterday. Check out yesterdays Danzig mapper.

anyone know what music this is.Beethoven or such?
You forgot to detail what happens to the economic sanctions on Russia.
The children who were killed had brought their cute, big-eyed puppies and fuzzy kittens.
These were all bayoneted and cooked for BBQ, along with the children and any babies that were found.
I can't imagine these young Russians wanting to die for an ex-KGB thug like Putin.
Don't they have grandparents and great-grandparents who suffered under the terror of the KGB?
I don't care one way or another. Not our circus, not our monkeys but I really don't think the Russian military's heart is in this.
The Mail has been slavishly reporting every piece of Ukrainian propaganda from the beginning.
Too late to change at this point I guess.

Assuming official Russian casualties are true - 500 in 1 week - 500 is 1/2 the average Russian KIA in Afghanistan for an entire year. I suspect Putin is going to run into serious problems taking casualty numbers at ~25x its reported Afghan War rate per week with half the Russian population that it had during the Afghan campaign. All those single son families are gonna be screaming bloody murder.
When you compare Afghanistan to Vietnam, it’s remarkable how much less punishment in body count terms the Russians were able to take before hitting their uncle point. The official Russian KIA number in Afghanistan was 13,000 over about 10 years, which is roughly 1/5 the US number in Vietnam. When you think about the coercive powers of the totalitarian Soviet state vs the anything goes milieu of 60’s and 70’s America - it’s amazing the US hung in there so long.
