BEIJING (AP) — China’s foreign minister on Monday called Russia his country’s “most important strategic partner” as Beijing continues to refuse to condemn the invasion of Ukraine despite growing pressure from the U.S. and European Union to use its influence to rein Moscow in.
Wang Yi said Chinese ties with Moscow constitute “one of the most crucial bilateral relationships in the world.”
China has broken with the U.S., Europe and others that have imposed sanctions on Russia after its invasion of Ukraine. Beijing has said sanctions create new issues and threaten a political settlement of the conflict.
“No matter how perilous the international landscape, we will maintain our strategic focus and promote the development of a comprehensive China-Russia partnership in the new era,” Wang said at a news conference on the sidelines of the annual meeting of China’s ceremonial parliament.
“The friendship between the two peoples is iron clad,” he added.
Russia said it endorses China’s view of self-governing Taiwan as an “inalienable part of China, and opposes any forms of independence of Taiwan,” while China backed Russia in opposing the further enlargement of NATO.

It’s been long time passed to embargo Chinese goods. Got a problem with that?
Question for the Russia-Hater:
Does this mean that Mitt Romney was right when he said in 2012 that “Russia...without question, is our number one geopolitical foe”.
Joe will get right on it!
The Russian economy is roughly the same as the state of Texas. That’s not enough butter to spread on Xi’s dinner rolls at a CCP conference. Mull that a bit.
I definitely won’t hold my breath.
Russia’s GDP is less than the bipartisan “infrastructure” boondoggle passed by Congress last year.
We urinate more money than Russia generates.
Bkmk
Chinese are interesting to watch right now. They’re treating Russia and the West (primarily the US) the same way they’ve historically barbarians. Divide, conquer, pit them against one another, and bribe them into weakness.
Speaks volumes about how they see themselves right now.
Wonder how Russians feel when that subconscious warning light, dating from the Mongol conquest, turns on at the prospect of Beijing’s “warm” embrace? It should be glowing quite brightly now.

Not anymore. Ruble is cratering today. It smashed through a record low of 150 rubles to the dollar and is still going lower.
I think that must have been passed through several language translations. If you go back to the original Chinese and translate directly it comes out something like: “That’s a nice Siberia you’ve got there.”
I hope to see some action on this but it has been a while:

China always has been the bigger problem and all this drama with Russia deflects from that.
I heard the prior to starting the invasion Russia bought a large amount of Chinese Yuan with Russian rubles for it’s foreign reserves.
Which Putin will now use to buy Chinese goods, whereas the Chinese government is left holding a bunch of worthless rubles.
And the Chinese are not happy about it.
Very pertinent point. Of course, at this moment China holds a much desired 2-1 position in the global setting. "Any enemy of my enemy...", etc.
I doubt they send all their kids there to go to school.
I fully expect China to stab Russia in the back at the opportune time. They are goading them into overarching and when Russia's need is most dire they will cut them loose.
Remember China's goal is world domination and taking the Russian chest piece off the game board is just to good of an opportunity to pass up. Additionally there be a hole lot of Russian land for China to gobble up and Russia will have no ability to stop them.
Instead of 4 world powers there will only be 3.
Mitt was stupid. Russia may be #2 but China was and is #1. But Mitt and his family are deeply involved with China.
