That’s a lot closer to the “middle” that I thought negotiations would get to, if they ever got anywhere. If Putin is only asking for the donbas and no-Nato garauntees, then I think he actually wants this over

Although I don’t believe Zalenskyy would ever agree to all that. If he goes down with Kyiv, I wonder if they will leave the offer on the table.

Seems like it. I guessed that he wanted the Ukraine government totally replaced, and nothing less would work. Of course, my guess is only as good as anyone in the Biden admin... meaning not worth much.

He's also dropped his demands for a demilitarized Ukraine.

It's a good deal. Putin will never cede Crimea. The Russian navy depends on it. And Donetsk and Luhansk don't want to be part of Ukraine anyways. Are they not allowed to pursue independence? We bombed Serbia so that Kosavo could achieve the very same thing that these two Oblasts are asking for. The real question is what do Ukrainians think about it?

I don't think it's going to happen though.

Sounds like that’s all they wanted from the start…

Don’t see any demands that are any different from well before invasion.

This is crap. It only encourages the world to isolate the goonstate that is Putin’s Soviet Russia.

My thoughts too. Middle ground to start negotiations.

He wants it over because he’s getting his butt kicked around. Not out of any sense of magnanimity. if he could he would have just rolled in and toppled the government and did whatever he wanted. Which is the reason you usually roll in a full invasion force.

Good point. I have my doubts Ukraine will agree. However, if the do agree, I can guarantee Biden will read a speech where he takes all the credit.

Putin was positioned to get all of these things prior to the start of conflict..... he made a big mistake but the repercussions will impact the entire world.
