CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WV News) — Rep. Alex Mooney, who has represented West Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District since 2015, will face fellow Republican incumbent Rep. David McKinley in the state’s May 10 primary election.
The matchup of incumbents is the result of the state’s new congressional map finalized by state lawmakers in October.

Mooney went on to say he is a pro-life candidate, a supporter of the 2nd Amendment, an advocate for smaller government and a champion of “personal responsibility.”
“I think you choose what medicines you should take as an adult. I think you should work for a living — personal responsibility,” he said. “I believe in a strong national defense, too, and I do think communists in this world are big bullies.”
Mooney has closely aligned himself with former President Donald Trump and has received Trump’s endorsement in the race.
That endorsement came after Trump targeted Republicans who supported President Joe Biden’s infrastructure-only bill. McKinley joined with 12 other Republicans in the House to help pass the bill because it will bring over $6 billion to West Virginia for roads, bridges, water, sewer and broadband.

“If the other side wants to prove the election wasn’t stolen, they should welcome a healthy discussion about election integrity,” Mooney tweeted Dec. 18, 2020.
Mooney was among the Republicans who signed an amicus brief in support of Texas vs. Pennsylvania, an attempt to contest the results of the election that the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear.

“…It’s unfortunate that two R’s are lumped into the same district, but I’ll have to support the one President Trump endorsed.”

That’s a good rule of thumb to follow.🤗👏👏
Rep. David McKinley joined the Dems and voted for the Biden/Pelosi trillion dollar “infrastructure” bill.
Thanks for the information. Now we know to whom we should donate.
Rep. David McKinley joined the Dems and voted for the Biden/Pelosi trillion dollar “infrastructure” bill.
Thank You!!!
Rep. Mooney, a carpetbagger from MD who after losing his state senate seat in 2012, was forced by the Republican party to withdraw from the 2014 MD 6 congressional primary for an ethics violation. He then moved to WV to run in the 2014 WV 2 US Congressional primary. He voted FOR the Harris Amendment to the Justice for Victims of Lynching Act that would make it a federal hate crime to speak disparagingly about islam.
I’ve always been a supporter of President Trump and believe he should still hold that office, but I think in this choice he is mistaken. I do not believe that this man, my present Congressman, Alex Xavier Mooney, is good for our nation.
He’s clearly better than McKinley, who is a pretty clear-cut RINO.
Isn’t the other WV rep a woman who is also not that great? Or maybe she is the pub senator?
Ain’ either of them worth a bucket of cold goat phlegm.
Make you a deal, FRiend. You vote for whomever you want to vote for in Tennessee and I’ll do the same in West Virginia.
Rep. Carol Miller is the other member from the 3rd (Southern) district. I don’t know much about her, she’s in her 2nd term. There’s also Sen. Shelley Capito, who is subpar.
I’ll be getting a GOP Congressmember here for the first time since U.S. Grant was reelected in 1872 (the big question is which one, I’m not happy with the choices at present). But every member matters now regardless of their location. Who are you supporting in WV ?
Capito is the one I was thinking of.
I think she was in the house until a senate cycle or two back.
From 2001-2015, and then she went to the Senate.
This race has become far nastier than it should be, with a ton of negative tv ads on both sides.
I have met both candidates and I personally like McKinley better and also think it’s a good thing to have engineers/small business persons in Congress.
BUT...
McKinley voted for the infrastructure bill.
McKinley voted for the politicized Jan. 6 commission.
McKinley’s ads are nastier and more deceptive, exaggerating Mooney’s ethics issues and implying that Trump supports him, when in fact Trump endorsed Mooney.
And the carpetbagger issue is so tired. Mooney has been a resident of West Virginia for 10 years now, and only moved a few miles from a neighboring state. I moved to moved to WV from Virginia 20 years ago. At what point am I no longer a carpetbagger?
So in early voting today, I voted for Mooney.
