The invasions were.
The “nation building” wasn’t.
The only way to deal with those terrorists is to cause Biblical pain & suffering, leave and tell them “there’s more where that came from”.
After a 20 year occupation, who leads Ashcanistan today?
the Taliban was crushed within months. Then, about 7 years of passive occupation (only the capital region). Then, Bush started the planning and Obama gave the order, there was an effort to turn Afghanistan into a democracy capable of depending itself. So, in 2009, Bush and Obama made that absolutely stupid decision.
Are you really saying that we shouldn’t have crushed the Taliban?
My goodness, man, you are either far up Putin’s ass, or really, really ignorant.
I apologize if you’ve just gotten confused about what happened in Afghanistan. Especially if you are a veteran. I give a lot of leeway to those who joined in our nation’s defense. But, I made the difference clear between crushing the Taliban and trying to turn Afghanistan into a democracy that can defend itself.
As to who is in charge in Afghanistan? The Taliban is back in Kabul, but this is of little consequence in the tribal regions. There is widespread famine and other deprivation. It’s anarchy. Like Somalia. Nobody’s in charge.
Well Tony, looks like you and W were wrong. Not dead wrong, because you didn’t have any skin in the game to loose. If you would have not “eliminated” Saddam, there wouldn’t be a vacuum in the Mideast. Now look at the mess.
And Daddy Cheney is probably making billions.
The Iraq invasion was a total waste and was based on lies of weapons of mass destruction. Invading Afghanistan made sense. We should have mopped up Al-Qaeda and Taliban as best we could. Then within two years gotten the hell out. Instead, we turned it into a 20 year long meals on wheels program with heavy do-gooder NGO and do-gooder State Department involvement. In the end we achieved nothing useful.
Muslim nations are impossible to reform into liberal Democratic ones.
I supported both wars back then.
