what i see is the Ukrainian version of the war of 1812.
Ukraine has declared itself an independent nation, with a few years between, when the putin empire denies that construct, and invades.as with 1812, the russian forces set out to conquer and burn the capital city and the buildings that defined it as the capital.
this time, instead of a standing army alone, every Ukrainian citizen that could carry a rifle and ammo, is doing so.
this is something putin does not really grasp. a free people fighting for the existence of their country, their land, their homes, and their continued freedom, is something deeper than any conscripted to military person would ever understand. IMHO, the russian people are still not “free”, and wll not be, until the last individual connected to the time before the fall of the berlin wall is dead.
“what i see is the Ukrainian version of the war of 1812.”
It would be a good analogy if we were located in Ireland and were armed to the teeth with foreign weaponry.
Exactly how I see it as well. All of this "it is really part of Russia historically and so Russia has the right to reconquer it" would be just as applicable to the British trying to retake "the colonies" in 1812. Self-determination matters, and the Ukrainians have been an independent nation for 20 years.
Russian artillery bombing Kyiv is pretty much the game-ender for me on who is the good guy v. bad guy in Ukraine. No matter how shitty or corrupt that government may be, the Ukrainian people themselves very clearly prefer it to being ruled by Putin.
