Army Col (Ret) MacGregor: U.S. Should "Stop Shipping Weapons And Stop Encouraging Ukrainians To Die In A Hopeless Endeavor"

TREY GOWDY: Why do you think Putin is doing this? What is his end game?

COL. DOUG MACGREGOR: Well, Vladimir Putin is carrying through on something that he has been warning us about at least for the last 15 years, which is he will not tolerate U.S. forces or missiles on his borders. Much as we would not tolerate Russian missiles or troops in Cuba.

And we ignored him and he finally acted. He was not going to allow Ukraine, under any circumstances, to join NATO.

Biden is talking tough about Russia, while buying fuel from them and negotiating with Iran with them.

He’s playing you clowns who can’t think straight.

Unfortunately most GOP politicians are not really on our side and will go to bat for the defense industry before ordinary average Americans.

I'm not willing to send American troops to die there either. It isn't their country.

But it is the Ukrainian's country, and if those people are willing to fight and die to defend it, I think we should give them any support we can short of that.

There seems to be a curious phenomenon among some US defense and intel people where they have already decided that Europe is to be or should be divided into spheres of influence and the Ukrainians should just give up and recognize "reality."

Would you?

This is Wag the Dog folks! And we are the stooges!

The main stooges are the Ukrainian people. CIA Director Williams Burns has said publicly for 25 years, that discussion of Ukraine in NATO was a bright, shiny red-line for Russia - and not just Putin, but for all of Russia's government and for nearly all Russians.

So the US Government / NATO was never going to come to the aid of Ukraine - but it was going to prod, poke and encourage their puppets in Kiev to confront Russia. They have achieved their goal - an isolated Russia, and an EU back on the NATO/US plantation, control of EU energy supplies. A destroyed Ukraine is just an acceptable consequence.

The thing is, most Freepers view Russia as a school yard bully picking on the little guy. Ukraine didn’t bomb Russia, Ukraine was just sitting there minding its own business and Russia invaded. Did they want to join NATO? Sure, they had a bully breathing down their neck.

We will always stand behind the little guy because that’s how we started.

There's no better way to reinvigorate NATO and likely expand its membership than for Russia to have invaded non-NATO Ukraine. Also will encourage the forward deployment of more NATO troops in Eastern European nations such as Poland and the Baltic States.

Given that this is such an obvious result, you have to wonder how genuine was Putin's professed concern about NATO expansion threatening Russia itself.

Here's an alternative theory: Putin had decided long ago that he wanted to reconstitute the USSR as much as possible. Invading Ukraine was always on the agenda, and he knew that if he didn't complete that conquest before Ukraine joined NATO, he might not get the chance.

This was never about Russia itself being threatened -- it was always about Russia's desire to expand.

Substitute Imperial Russia for USSR and we agree!

Sure. The concept is really the same in that the USSR certainly was driven by Russian (as opposed to just Communist) Imperialism as well.

The argument that Russia felt "threatened" is simply ridiculous. An alliance that Putin knew was unwilling even to defend Ukraine certainly wasn't going to be willing to invade Russia itself.

He just knows that NATO membership acts as a limit on Russian expansionism, and he wants to expand. Simple as that.

In my opinion, this is Russia’s last gasp, either way this probably is the end of Russia as a major power. I base it on the belief that even a “victory” in Ukraine will be the “Mother of all Pyrrhic Victories.”

My question is, who rises to take advantage of it? My money is on Turkey.

“Biden is talking tough about Russia, while buying fuel from them and negotiating with Iran with them.

Correct.

It is equally important to understand that the Democrats have decimated US oil and energy production while creating massive domestic inflation.

Putin didn’t do that.

My enemy is someone who seeks to harm me.

That is the Democrats, not Putin.
