I saw a meme the other day that truly fit this current situation. It was the scene from animal house where D-Day told Flounder; “You effed up. You trusted us.”
D-Day being NATO. Flounder being Ukraine.
That's one of the great movies lines, appropriate to so many situations and especially to this one. But wasn't is Otter who said that to Flounder?

Trusted what about them? Trusted them to do what?
Trusted is the wrong word. Ukraine believed (falsely, but probably given a wink and a nod from the US) that NATO membership would be granted to back their play of becoming an anti-Russian border state.
Ukraine was USED, lured into a trap that delusional neocons thought could give them casus belli for the Russian war they have dreamed of since forever.
