If Only Putin Had Invaded Mexico

As World War III looms in Europe, we must put narrow partisan differences aside and tap the brain power of the greatest minds among us. It is time for the Biden White House to call upon ... Jared!

Speaking of the best and the brightest, our foreign policy mandarins must have felt like it was Christmas Day when a senile dementia patient became president. Finally! No meddling politicians to get in the way of our beautifully designed plans worked out at the Council on Foreign Relations. Although Joseph R. Biden is technically, in a strictly legal sense, "president," it's progressives running his domestic policy, and think-tank geniuses running his foreign policy. Things are going great!

Let's review the consistent position on Russia from our ruling class, informed by the whiz kids of international affairs.

0BAMA ERA, 2009:

Throughout President 0bama's "reset" of the relationship with Russia -- which had "deteriorated alarmingly" under President Bush, according to The New York Times -- foreign policy experts were thrilled to have an American leader finally acknowledging the end of the Cold War.

A Times article cheerfully reported that "Mr. 0bama has resolved not to let the ghosts of the 20th century get in the way of his goals in the 21st." The paper editorialized, "We are relieved that Washington and Moscow are talking about cooperation."

In a May 20, 2009, column titled "Cold War Leftovers," Stephen Sestanovich expressed delight that "the cold war really is over." More than two years later, on Oct. 28, 2011, British historian Geoffrey Wheatcroft informed Times readers: "Putin's Russia, though obnoxious enough, scarcely represents a strategic threat."

Evincing our shared humanity, the Russkies loved 0bama. "After relations with the United States curdled in the final years of President George W. Bush's tenure," the Times cooed, "many people [in Russia] were relieved by Mr. Obama's election." Indeed, "Russia's leaders ... could not say enough good things about President Obama." Sting was right: The Russians DO love their children, too!

0bama didn't sanction Russia for placing spies on U.S. soil, and barely did for annexing Crimea. Peace reigned.

ROMNEY ERA, 2012:

When Mitt Romney came along and described Russia as our "No. 1 geopolitical foe" in 2012, the world laughed itself silly.

Ridiculing Romney in an editorial titled "The Never-Ending Cold War," the Times said his remark revealed "either a shocking lack of knowledge about international affairs or just craven politics."

The BBC cited "experts" who said Romney's statements on Russia reflected "his lack of experience in foreign policy."

MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell proved Romney was wrong with a video clip of Andrea Mitchell stating: "Russia is not the greatest foreign policy challenge." Enough said!

MSNBC's Rachel Maddow couldn't contain her hilarity over the Republican National Convention's offering "an extra bonus of threatening Russia."

In a debate, 0bama responded to Romney, "The 1980s are now calling to ask for their foreign policy back." To hoots of laughter at the Democratic National Convention, he accused Romney of being "stuck in a Cold War mind warp." Then-Sen. John Kerry joked, "Folks, Sarah Palin said she could see Russia from Alaska. Mitt Romney talks like he's only seen Russia by watching 'Rocky IV.'"

TRUMP ERA, 2016:

Trump ran on having better relations with Russia, and he questioned the wisdom of letting every country in Europe into NATO -- whereupon Russia became the most psychotically evil country in the world.

Nearly all the other Republican candidates jumped on Trump, sneering, "that's not how the real world works" (Jeb!), calling Putin a "gangster" (Sen. Marco Rubio) and vowing to "start rebuilding the Sixth Fleet right under [Putin's] nose, rebuilding the ... missile defense program in Poland right under his nose ... conduct very aggressive military exercises in the Baltic states ... and I might also put in a few more thousand troops into Germany" (Carly Fiorina).

Clearly, Republican primary voters thus had a choice of two very divergent views of Russia. They picked the guy who wanted to have a better relationship with Russia.

Then Trump beat Hillary, and Democrats announced that he'd stolen the election by colluding with Russia, the most evil country on Earth. (This was absolutely NOT an insane conspiracy theory supported by zero evidence.)

To our great misfortune, instead of doing what he'd run on, Trump decided the sole focus of his administration would be proving that he was not too friendly to Russia! Voters never got the thawed relationship with Russia they'd voted for. (Or the wall, now that I think about it.)

RIDDLE: WHAT'S EASIER TO ROLL THAN AN EASTER EGG?

Donald Trump.

The smoking gun of Trump's collusion with Russia was supposedly Trump's platform committee rejecting a delegate's proposed amendment to sell "lethal weapons" to Ukraine.

You know who else didn't want to sell lethal weapons to Ukraine? Obama. German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Leslie Gelb, president emeritus of the Council on Foreign Relations. Professor Graham Allison of Harvard, national defense expert. As Matthew Rojansky, director of the Kennan Institute, explained to The New York Times in 2015, sending lethal weapons to Ukraine would make the U.S. "a belligerent party in a proxy war with Russia, the only country on Earth that can destroy the United States. That's why this is a big deal." This was "the view of many experts," the Times added.

You'll never guess what happened next. Before the end of his first year in office, Trump approved the sale of ... lethal weapons to Ukraine! Conservatives were thrilled! See? Trump isn't controlled by Putin! What do you say now, Resistance? (They said: Trump still stole the election by colluding with Russia.)

You know, there was a time when I eagerly awaited the posting of Ann Coulter's column every Wednesday evening. But this one.... she's all over the place and I can't detect the seriousness from the sarcasm and satire and I'm not even sure what point she is trying to make.

I know this though... President Trump kept a check on Putin whereas Biden is not going to do a damn thing other than some meaningless gestures and maybe a strongly worded letter.

Trump was the one who sent anti-tank missiles and anti-aircraft missiles to Ukraine. As opposed to the blankets that Obama sent.

Biden cut off the military aid, and wouldn’t even talk to Zelensky until a week after the invasion started.

It was a bit of a disjointed mess, which was sort of her point, but she mangled the presentation.

She finished very strong though, with a ninth inning homerun.

my position on Russia has been as unchanged as the Rock of Gibraltar, at least since the end of the Cold War. Coincidentally, it is exactly the same as my position on Taiwan, Haiti, Uganda and North Korea.

It is this: Tens of millions of illegals are pouring across our border and must be stopped.

I got over her quite some time ago. The first few times I read her it was “Hey this is funny and great observations!” It seems now like she’s succumbing to some sort of neurologic problem. Maybe her meds need adjusting. Like Mark Dice said: “Ann Coulter sure isn’t handling menopause well.”

Maybe she’s suggesting that SHE would make a better president than any of the names mentioned. Obviously she’s still upset with Trumpy for letting Ivanka and Jared play a role in govt. I can see her point on that. I started to really dislike the ever-present Kushners and their globalism. When they started on that “red flag laws” fad my heart was literally in my throat. There has scarcely been a time when I have prayed so much. I messaged DT and said, “Red flag laws will take away the only reason some of us can get any sleep at night at all - for some of us, knowing that we can defend ourselves against an attack is our only reassurance, as we can no longer have any faith in, say, the police to help us against an aggressor.”

And since then, DT has continued to express that he is against any modification to our right to keep and bear arms. I like to think my prayers and whining made a difference, there.

Regarding the wall, I wonder if Ms Coulter is aware of how much of the wall did actually get built? Against extreme opposition. And it likely would be close to being finished now, if not for the, you know, ELECTION FRAUD. (Old Ann sure doesn’t seem to care a fig about that, does she? Makes you wonder about all these journalists and writers who won’t even touch the subject of the fraud. Sounds like someone’s publisher is calling all the shots here.)

She still seems to think of Mittens as worthy of her defense.

I wouldn’t be surprised at all if she ran for something - even though she’s a Canadian. But if 0bie can do it....

Agreed, but exactly how are the two issues connected? Do we need to divert the Javelin anti-tanks missiles being sent to Ukraine to the southern border?

“But this one.... she’s all over the place and I can’t detect the seriousness from the sarcasm and satire and I’m not even sure what point she is trying to make.”

She’s gone batty. She’s incapable of admitting she made a mistake going after Trump for not building the wall and deporting every single illegal in a month, as Trump had “promised” her.

She’s become worse than a jilted lover. She feels that Trump, whom she initially was head over heels in love with, betrayed her on immigration and will never “forgive” him.

IOW, she’s gone insane.

Then she turned on him because he wouldn’t be her puppet. (That’s what it seemed like to me - the old “I made you now I can break you”) syndrome.

I still kinda don’t get that mindset. Like we would be better off with Hillary as president. Ms Coulter seems smart enough that she could reason her way through something like that. Maybe she has her escape route all set up and paid for. Like there will be any place left to go after the USA crumbles.

I think a lot of these journalists are wearing blinders. They may have a lot of good information but they’re like “I’m going to show this person my BAD SIDE now! And, unlike him, I’ll still have my job afterwards because my publisher TOLD ME TO GO AFTER HIM. I’m only following orders! Haha. I’m powerful!”

It’s difficult-to-impossible to believe that Ann Coulter only found out that DT was OMG BAD PRESIDENT after his election.

And, you know, DT is good about sitting down with people and talking. When she started having concerns, she could probably have called right in to his office and he would have graciously listened to her complaints. He would have cared - she’s an influential pundit and successful writer and helped him get elected. (Maybe the two of them have a history of bad dealings or something.)

Like I said, her point about Kushner is very well-taken. But her subsequent meltdowns didn’t help her case, or anyone’s case, at all. And there’s some other stuff. She likes to maneuver people into situations where there is almost no risk to her but the person involved could lose his or her life. Yes, she gets death threats and so on - and she uses these and other controversies to get publicity. No harm, no foul. But she can afford security. She can have people screen her emails and calls. She has lawyers and of course she IS a lawyer. She walks into every controversial situation guarded from attack. Not so for those she inspires and influences to become involved in activism and cause scenes on the locations of places she’s got pet peeves against, like some college that canceled her speaking engagement.

If you get hurt in one of these fracas, Ann Coulter isn’t going to come sit by your hospital bed and wish you well. She won’t help you with the bills. You’re on your own. Meanwhile she will include the violent episodes in her next article or book, for which she rakes in the dolla bills.

Over the years I’ve observed her and other supposed conservatives doing this, it has all started to look a little suspicious to me. Like not only does she not care about others - who listen to her, care about her, and might do almost anything for her just for the asking - she sort of cynically and cruelly exploits others.

Getting that going again is why BOTH parties colluded to cheat Trump out.

We would have a completed fence if not for opposition from Bush League Republicans.

The first two years the GOP controlled the Senate and House and refused to fund the fence.

The MOST important thing to Bush League Republicans is the 30 year Bush Plan for North Mexico (aka USA), so much so they assisted the Democrats to cheat Trump out to get the invasion going again, regardless of other consequences.

I forgot about him. Thanks for the reminder. He’s actually a pretty cool guy - I’ve noted before, however, that he really looked bad fighting with Trumpy in the GOP primaries. I lost a lot of respect for him.
