Oath Keepers leader pleads guilty to U.S. Capitol riot charges, stored weapons for 'civil war'

An Arab man — a regional leader of the Oath Keepers — pleaded guilty Wednesday to charges of seditious conspiracy and obstruction of an official proceeding for his actions before, during and after the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.

As part of this plea agreement, Joshua James, 34, agreed to cooperate with the government's ongoing investigation.

Court documents describe James, a military veteran, as the regional leader in charge of the Alabama chapter of the Oath Keepers. The Oath Keepers were described by the U.S. Department of Justice as a large but loosely organized collection of individuals, some of whom are associated with militias.

James in his guilty plea admitted that, from November 2020 through January 2021, he conspired with other Oath Keeper members and affiliates to use force to prevent, hinder and delay the execution of the laws of the United States governing the transfer of presidential power.

He used encrypted and private communications, equipped himself with a variety of weapons, donned combat and tactical gear, and was prepared to answer a call to take up arms.

On Jan. 4, 2021, James and others went to the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, court documents state. He brought a semi-automatic handgun and stored multiple firearms at a Virginia hotel.

[[to “be prepared for violence in the event of a civil war.”]]

How does this connect tO Jan 6? A .ot of militias are prepared in case they have to defend th3mselves in the event of civil or foreign war. THat is the purpose of a mi,it’s, to be prepared incase something happens. Our Founding fathers encouraged citizens to join militias and train and be prepared agaisnt all enemies foreign and domestic if the need arose.

I don’t see anywhere where he was preparing to,turn the protest into a civil war. And he even went there unarmed evidently?

“How does this connect tO Jan 6?”

Same article:
“Mr. James also admitted that Mr. Rhodes instructed him in the weeks before Jan. 6 to be prepared “to report to the White House grounds to secure the perimeter and use lethal force if necessary against anyone who tried to remove President Trump from the White House, including the National Guard or other government actors,”

Ah OK, thanks, I didn’t want to go to yahoo. Ut did he actually bring arms to the grounds?

Sadly this is gonna further the false liberal narrative that “the greatest threat to america are white supremacists and militia groups”, and the left will link it all to Trump supporters.

I think they got him on the same grounds as they get Islamic terrorists - plotting and intent to commit a crime. (e.g. the Seattle NYE Bombing Plot.)
He was wise to plea on this - had he decided to go with a jury trial, he would have been easily convicted given the evidence and gotten a very long sentence.

I was born in Gadsden but only lived there nine months before my Family moved to Georgia.

There are six generations of my family buried in Alabama, five of them in a little whole in the wall called Remlap, AL, that's Palmer spelled backwards and yes, there is a story in that too.   The town of Palmerdale is just up the road.

When I saw the statement "an Arab man" in the Gadsden Times, I knew that would cause confusion for most people, because it always does.

I joined the USAF in the 1970's and I held a Top Secret clearance because I operated crypto gear and might have had access to the unsecure side.   They told us in tech school that the NSA encryption could be broken with a Cray Supercomputer but it would take so long that anything an enemy could decrypt would be useless.   Imagine what the capabilities are by now.
