I expect Mariupol to fall soon....He's truly going to create the buffer zone in Eastern Ukraine and I suspect up to the river...which will divide Ukraine.

How soon will Google maps start showing Ukraine as part of Russia?

Gives Russia control of the Dnieper River. Kiev largely loses inland access to the Black Sea if this is true.

So has the celebrated street fighting by armed civilians begun? Suspect the Russians will not be kind to any partisans or their families that they identify or capture. Wish the Ukrainians well but there will be a lot more death and destruction.

First major city NW of the Crimean Peninsula and only 20% ethnic Russian. So much for those using the Sudetandland argument to excuse Putin's naked aggression.

If RU somehow established control of the coast, in exchange for withdrawing from Kyiv, it could lead to another split. East & West Ukraine, Cold War II.

Any attempts by NATO to intervene would cause WW3. If Russia stops there, there will be no choice but to outlast Putin (if he is indeed sick), as with Brezhnev and his successors.

Japanese maps still don't show southern Sakalin Island (Karafuto) or the Kuril Islands (Chishima reitou) as part of Russia.

They do show the four on the southern end as still part of Japan even though Russia has occupied them since 1945. A peace treaty from World War II has never been concluded as a result.

The Ukrainians are having to make some hard choices. Most of their forces are in the East, and the rest have been moved to defend Kiev and Kharkiv.

They can’t commit much to the southern front near Crimea.

Makes sense.

Access to, and later control of, the Black Sea has been a Russian project for the last 350+ years. Odessa, Mykolaiv are either in their total control or surrounded. Mariupol is definitely also target. That could be a battle because that’s supposedly where the Azov Brigade is strongest.

The deep state clowns and their sock-puppet President and VP never imagined history might repeat.

“Gives Russia control of the Dnieper River. Kiev largely loses inland access to the Black Sea if this is true.”

Yup. Russia will surely annex Ukraine east of the Dnieper, basically reducing Ukraine by half. Ukraine west of the river will still have some major agricultural areas, especially Vinnitsa and that area of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast west of the river. But Russia will gobble up the agricultural areas east of the river, and the industrial production east of the river. That will impoverish Ukraine.

” Suspect the Russians will not be kind to any partisans or their families that they identify or capture.”

They will be treated as combatants, though I doubt they’ll go after non-combatant families. However they will clear clusters of combatants in neighborhoods with the least risk to themselves.

So would you.
