Heat wave a glimpse of climate change’s impact in N. America

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The U.S. Pacific Northwest was in the throes of a record-shattering heat wave last summer when a woman in her 70s was wheeled into an emergency room with symptoms of a life-threatening heat stroke.

Desperate to cool her, Dr. Alexander St. John grabbed a body bag, filled it with ice from the hospital kitchen and zipped the woman inside. Within minutes, her body temperature dropped and her symptoms improved.

The sweltering stretch across the normally cool region offers a glimpse of the types of extreme weather events that will accelerate in North America within 30 years without a coordinated effort to slow climate change, according to a United Nations report released this week.

In the West, the report forecasts intensifying drought, extreme heat and wildfires. The Gulf Coast is expected to get more destructive hurricanes and rising sea levels. In the Midwest and Northeast, heavier rains are expected to cause more flooding and damage to crops.

Cold weather is not climate.

Hot weather is climate.

NYC used to be under a mile of ice.

Alligators used to live in rain forests in Alaska.

Please bring the “heat wave” to the Northeast.

What fun is climate change is it does not do what we tell it to!

The AP reporter can come here and shovel the snow banks off my driveway....after they pass out from exhaustion maybe they will reconsider their view.

There is no such thing as “cold”, there is only the absence of heat.

It reached 117 degrees here in Oregon last summer. I have air conditioning and cold beer. I didn’t watch NBC.

Well it is from the UN, it must be right. You know the group who has a security council with China, Russia, Gabon, Ghana Kenya, Albania and the Arab Emiratis as the council president.

What me worry?

I don’t want any old ladies melting down but I am liking 50 degrees on Mar. 1.

All of which is weather and none of which is climate.

The hottest temperature ever recorded anywhere in Oregon is 119 degrees, a record set in Pendleton on Aug. 10, 1898.

Wonder what was happening in 1898 that made it so hot?

Like there is no fluctuation:
Much of the North and Northwest may have a cooler-than-usual March. The best chance of a chilly March is from Washington state to northwest Minnesota.

Climate change is caused by the Sun.

What kind of coordinated effort will affect Sun spots, explosions of the surface of the Sun, etc.?

Predict whatever you want, some might be correct, but the opposite might also occur. Everyone and anyone can make predictions.
