Turkey, a NATO member with close ties to Russia, initially denied the request, citing international law. When the situation in Ukraine escalated to war, however, Turkey affirmed that provided legal grounds to block the waterway.

Turkey is unilaterally confronting Russia. If Russia and Turkey clash in international waters, does that mean the US must o to the “aid” of Turkey? NATO is still absurd for the American people.
I would root for Russia against Turkey, ultimately Erdogan is going to be a much bigger threat than even Putin.
I will root for mutual destruction! Vodka and Raki cocktails!
The Russians will probably sail through The Bosporus in force and dare the Turks to do anything to stop it. The Crimean peninsula was Peter the Great’s least favorite option for a warm water port, they want direct access to the Mediterranean and seizing Constantinople would do it.
Erdogan just wants Putin out of the way, so he is free to rebuild the Ottoman Empire, he’s waiting for his turn.
Where are you Putin apologists willing to draw the line? The same arguments being made about Ukraine by Putin apply to Poland and Finland and now Turkey
So after accepting this, I am guessing you also will support Russia invading these three nations?
Conseratives needs to stop emoting and starting thinking. Cheering on Putin just because he hates the same people you do is foolish.
It is 1938 all over again with you all cheering for Hitler Are you all really this dumb?
Well hopefully Turkey and Russia will both destroy each other, but my point stands, you get rid of Putin, then Erdogan is the next bad boy we’re going to have to deal with. If Russia is neutralized, he won’t need NATO anymore.
Been watching a lot of Fox News this past week. Pretty boring. Over analyzed. Reporters are not leaving their hotels. Same limited footage playing over and over.
Ok I will drink to that. Turkey and Russia mutual fractide without the US being sucked in would be fun to watch
in which case, who would come to turkey’s aid, i wonder? (not greece...)
Yeah Turkey, remember when you refused us using your airspace?
Payback’s a bitch motherf____s!
Putin and Erdogan have been cooperating in Libya and elsewhere in Africa, and have some kind of unwritten (or at least unpublished) agreement regarding the Turkish enclave in northern Syria. But the bungling cutthroats working for Pooty-Poot in Ukraine hit a Turkish ship.
Erdogan is biding his time.
No but you’re REALLY DUMB :)
I don’t remember you being this dumb last year.
I took a break :)
Ya see, Putin hasn’t attacked those countries yet.
When he does, then we need to dance.
Russia going into Ukraine. It’s bad. But predictable.
How would your ass feel if Mexico and Russia made a treaty and we could NEVER go into Mexico with troops.
What we don’t have reasons?? We should take a piece of land as a buffer against the invading hordes.
We should send the military in to destroy the cartels.
Or whatever reason pops up.
We can NO LONGER go into Mexico NO MATTER what they do because Russia will have to declare war on us.
Another couch tough guy.
I don’t understand MANY of the people on here who didn’t shut the #### up about guns for 20 years and then when statues toppled, didn’t even show up to PROTEST.
I’m sure you’re one of them :)
You’re so worried?
Get off your ass and head to Ukraine.
I know what Putin is. An assassin and dictator.
But WTH has NATO become?? A club store that takes all comers??
Wake the #### up and join the 21st century
This keeps warships out of the Black Sea and reduces the chance of another escalation.
Here is a question for you:
Would we have won the Cold War if Turkey was on the Soviet side instead of ours?
A communist Turkey would have allowed Russia into the Middle East and those states would have rapidly fallen as well.
Maybe during the Cold War, yes. But even so they should have been kicked out after they invaded Cyprus. They’re still there and threatening to annex it.
The Turks are actually following the treaty that governs transit of warships through the Bosporus.
By contrast, the thug and gangster Putin is not biding his time. He's overcommitted now. Erdogan has at least learned from his early mistakes. I look forward to both their demises, Putin's first. The difference is, when Erdogan falls, whatever follows will be worse, and not by a little bit. Putin's fall will lead to a massive internal crackdown and withdrawal of far-flung armed forces.
