A second round of talks aimed at ending Russia's attack on Ukraine is set to take place after the first meeting ended without resolution.
The first set of talks, which were held in Belarus on Monday afternoon, ended with Kyiv slamming Russia' destructive processes'.
A member of the Ukrainian delegation today said the discussions, which took five hours, were difficult and the Russian side was biased.
Presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak said on Twitter: 'The Russian side, unfortunately, still has a very biased view of the destructive processes it has launched.'
Russian officials, meanwhile, said: 'We have identified certain points from which we can predict general positions.'
Ukrainian President Vlodymyr Zelensky earlier admitted he was not confident of a positive resolution, adding that he owed it to his people to at least try and engage.
A new round of talks is now set to take place in the coming days, according to an aide to Russia's president Vladimir Putin.
Vladimir Medinsky said: 'Another round of talks was agreed to.
'Mykhailo Podolyak, a top adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, gave few details except to say that the talks, held near the Ukraine-Belarus border, were focused on a possible cease-fire and that a second round could take place 'in the near future.'
'The next meeting will take place in the coming days on the Polish-Belarusian border, there is an agreement to that effect,' Medinsky said.

“Russian side was biased”.
Isn’t that how it is supposed to work? Am I missing something or is that actually the dumbest statement I have read in a while?
Both sides have different agendas for the peace talks
Ukraine: “we just want you to go away and not kill us”
Russia: “We just want your unconditional surrender”
It’s like a rat negotiating with a boa.
I suspect a translation issue. Maybe “intransigent” is more the sense of it.
Ukraine should have a national vote within 90 days of cease fire about their wish to be members of NATO and the EU. Russia has made alot of claims and has no receipts to match. The region that was up for debate last year can have that same national vote. I would add the west would like to invite Kaliningrad Oblast also to hold that non binding vote.
NATO will be taking care of Ukraines air defence for one year from the cease fire.
So what I heard in I think a Fox news report, is that the two sides “heard” each other.
And they recognized a few points one which they could agree.
But each side has to go back to their leadership and discuss.
I’m wondering if a cease fire can be reached, which side it helps the most? Assuming that Russia still has evil intent.
Ukraine could use it to get incoming missiles and ammunition distributed.
Russia could use it to get it’s supply chains working and move more weaponry into Ukraine. And to figure out what has gone wrong so far.
I didn’t think of the translation thing. You are probably correct.
That’s what it sounds like to me too.
Maybe but he’s obviously not a native English speaker. He might have a different meaning for “biased”.
OMG, we can’t have peace being negotiated. Why would the Ukrainians talk peace after crushing the Russian Army, as I’ve been told. I would think they would be rolling into Crimea by now. Thank goodness they are negotiating an end to this rather than laying waste to the entire country fighting an unwinnable war.
You must have missed the Russian "red line" for nukeage regarding the NATO thingee.
Here’s my prediction of final deal:
1. Russia keeps Crimea
2. Ukraine agrees to keep water supply open to Crimea and will charge Russia for the water
3. Autotomy for Donbass or Russia can have them (except for Mariupol)
4. No NATO for Ukraine
5. Russia gets the hell out of Ukraine
6. Putin is dead of cancer in less than a year and he dies a loser who didn’t achieve his dreams of resurrecting the soviet union
Ukraine found out Russia’s soldiers are poorly trained and don’t want to be there
5 hours.
These were low level, sub ministry people for the Russians. They are not empowered to negotiate anything policy-wise. Too junior. So nothing like that was discussed.
Their only role is to negotiate the mechanism of surrender. It is not trivial. Exact date and hour must be agreed to in order to minimize post surrender casualties. Where arms must be stacked. Where vehicles must be parked.
The Ukrainians are not ready to capitulate, but somehow they were there 5 hours, and nothing else could be discussed, given the junior level of the Russian delegation.
That sounds about right. Don’t know about number 6.
Likely a move by Putin to say “we tried” before the 17-mile convoy levels Kiev
this is nothing but stalling by Russia so they can safely get the capital surrounded.
The only thing worse than losing this war for Putin is winning it. Because Russia is not going to be able to hold all those urban areas with a mere 190,000 troops with a bunch of pissed off marauding Ukrainians with weapons and molotovs taking to the streets at night to wreak havoc on the occupying forces. It will be even worse for the political puppets Putin appoints who will be assassinated weekly. Meanwhile sanctions will be wreaking havoc on Russia’s economy starved of foreign currency, inflation raging from a crashing ruble, and Russian citizens pissed off at their former hero, Putin.
That’s why Putin will agree to a deal and he will end up with no more territory than before the war.
The capital is surrounded. And the snow and rain starts tomorrow and lasts until Saturday. The rest of the week is not going to be fun for the Russian invaders who are stuck in their vehicles and can’t go anywhere.
