President Zelensky confirmed he has spoken to European Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen about Ukraine’s future.
And on Monday Ms von der Leyen said the bloc will push ahead with approving Ukraine’s membership.
“There is strong solidarity with Ukraine,” she said.
“They share our values, they defend our principles. They want to have a peaceful democracy and Russia is attacking that.
“We have a process with Ukraine that is, for example, integrating the Ukrainian market into the single market.
“We have very close cooperation on the energy grid, for example.
“So many topics where we work very closely together and indeed over time, they belong to us. They are one of us and we want them in.”
Brussels has committed to sending weapons to Ukraine, and is also banning Russian-backed media in the EU and prohibiting Russian aircraft from entering the bloc.

Probably too little too late.
Accepting Ukraine to the EU is a process that can take months or even years. There are other countries that are already waiting to be accepted.
Putin knew that at the present moment Ukraine is neither NATO nor EU member!
The solution the elites like is always more globalism
Ukraine should stay sovereign
Being part of the EU is not that big of difference then being part of the USSR
It consolidates power to the few and wealthy
Putin is off his rocker
The addition of the Eastern European countries is changing the dynamic of the EU
Countries like Poland and Hungary are pushing back within the EU on population replacement third world migration and social decadence
Ukraine would strengthen that bloc, and as the EU expands to be viable it would have to notch back down to more of a free-trade zone for prosperity, which is what it ought to be
They’re already talking of disbanning the EU. It’s they want it - they don’t want it - they want it - they don’t.
Ukraine should have thought of that sooner. Don’t know that the EU would want this war. Pushing through the acceptance would be waving at Putin to come bomb London and Paris.
They had not joined yet because of the threat of what they are enduring now!
Now they don’t need to worry about the threat of invasion anymore.
So... why not join the EU?
Indeed. I supported Brexit, because the EU was not good for the UK.
But for the Eastern Europeans the EU has been a boon. All of the countries that have been admitted have seen rapidly growing economies and stable democratic governments.
In 1990 Poland was poorer than Ukraine, GDP per person today:
* Poland - $17,318
* Ukraine - $4,384

Which explains why Ukrainians, even before this, have been moving to Poland in droves.
Major ag. country so it might work out. But the EU needs to return to a proper trade org.
Well, to be honest, after you’ve been an eastern block country there is no where to go but up.
I hear there's a spot open in the "U"s ever since the United Kingdom left the EU...
