Families have been torn apart in the biggest European conflict since the second world war, as Ukrainian women and children left their husbands and fathers behind after Ukrainian authorities ordered men aged 18-60 to stay and fight Kremlin forces. 'We left dad in Kiev and dad will be selling things and helping our heroes, our army, he might even fight,' Mark Goncharuk, a young boy choking with tears, said as he and his relatives fled the capital. As missiles fell on Ukrainian cities, nearly 400,000 Ukrainian civilians, mainly women and children, have fled into neighbouring countries.

Parenthetically, the Neveh Daniel Chabad synagogue, where I doing my prayers and studies, had guests this Shabbos, part of a family of Chabad emissaries who made it out in time. Part of the family is still in Ukraine, holed up incredibly in the little town of Anatevka, probably named after the famous Shalom Aleichem characters' fictional shtetl.

Possibly the reddest commie rag in the West is getting a bit of billing on FR of late. The a’holes have never forgiven the Russkies for ditching communism

Yeah. They’re still showing that video of the “Russian tank” running over a car. They can’t help it. They’ve lied so long, they forgot how to tell the truth. But teary-eyed Ukrainian kid seems to be a truthful video. He does speak something that sounds like Ukrainian, but I don’t know the language, so can’t say.

Guardian Tells Truth! Stop the presses! Exception that proves the rule.

“Part of the family is still in Ukraine”

So does that family support the invasion of their country? Do they want to be ruled by some Putin dictator puppet like thir neighbor?

“nearly 400,000 Ukrainian civilians, mainly women and children, have fled into neighbouring countries.”

Wait! What?
I thought the fighting age men were supposed to flee leaving the women and children behind.
What gives??

Since the women and children are fleeing will pretty German girls be running around with Welcome Refugees signs? Welcome the refugees into their homes? Give the refugees places to live, food and clothes?
Or is that only for 5th century reprobates that will rape them and then cut their heads off for being whores?

Nastier, but not bigger. They were pure tribalism in a very small area. Bosnia-Herzegovina is about the size of Rhode Island, from memory. No tribalism here. Ukrainians and Russians are linguistically and culturally cousins. Historically, there’s lots of bad blood, but that didn’t have to be.

I don’t think their opinions were asked. Some were probably born in Ukraine and if military-aged men, were kept from leaving. Some stayed because of their sense of duty to their congregations. Some just didn’t make it out.

You didn’t leave him. He was NOT allowed to leave. The Ukrainians were at the borders...pulling all males between 18-60 out of line.

Men there are forbidden from leaving. They are forced to defend the regime.

Have we yet to be shown the image of a child’s plush toy, with or without blood stains, lying amid the remaining rubble of some battle?

So then why not pronounce Moscow as “Moskva” since that’s how Russians pronounce it?

Feminine nouns in Russian would have different endings depending on the inflection, So Moskva in the nominative would be Moskvu in the accusative or Moskve in the dative, and Moskvoyo in the genitive, or something like that. English doesn’t have such niceties, so it’s simplified to Moscow.
