"It is not a couple of air strikes now, the situation in Ukraine is officially a war... We will implement the Montreux Convention," Mevlut Cavusoglu, Turkey's foreign minister, said in an interview with broadcaster CNN Turk.

Balancing its Western commitments and close ties to Moscow, Ankara has in recent days called the Russian attack unacceptable but until Sunday had not described the situation in Ukraine as a war.

Erdogan must tread lightly because the Russians have always wanted direct access to the Mediterranean and Constantinople.

“Erdogan must tread lightly because the Russians have always wanted direct access to the Mediterranean and Constantinople.”

Not a NATO war...yet. So far Putin’s respecting that.

It’s starting to look like we are setting up for WW3 if no settlement is negotiated.

Russia has been fighting for 250 years, since Peter the Great, to have a warm water port and if Turkey closes off Russia's access to the Mediterranean, even partially, there will be a price for Turkey to pay sooner or later.

Lol, Putin can't afford to start anything with NATO.

“This could drag NATO into it.”

It’s really up to the rest of NATO. As I see it, Russia will ‘test’ the blockade, and if Turkey strikes, then Russia will hit back. NATO’s mutual defense pact doesn’t cover unprovoked attacks by a NATO member...so NATO can escalate and take the risk, if they want to, but they are NOT bound to do so.

Any particular reason you think so. Perhaps the Female Defense Ministers will object, or he’ll put the NATO Climate Change agenda at risk?

Putin miscalculated, perhaps for the last time before being shipped off retirement. I think the rest of his minons are looking for the exit. Russia 2024 is going be very diffrent than 2022.

It is really to bad so many russian tanks somehow lost their way before meeting the partisan with with shoulder launcher. Never before has a army been so lost.

Well 1943, a division of US troops were that lost in Scotland, they emerged from the pub in 1946, when they heard via the radio their ride home was waiting.

Russian warships can’t traverse the Dardanelles to the Sea of Marmara?

Maybe, because Putin's army is looking pathetically incompetent against a completely outgunned Ukrainian army, that has no air force. What do you think happens to Putin's air force if it faces off with NATO?

Putin has launched an 'Age of Madness'! Will there be a Turkey-Russia war?

Another great war could begin

23- Turkey will not be the assassin of the U.S. and Europe, nor will it surrender to Russian expansionism. It will defend Ukraine’s integrity, uphold its views regarding Crimea, and present its own stance in the Caucasus and Central Asia. Turkey will not blindly take sides in the conflict between the U.S. and Russia. It will make its own plans, and determine its own position.

Putin’s statements on Ukraine and Russia’s invasion of the country revealed that he has similar intentions regarding Central Asian Turkic Republics. He additionally revealed that he does not consider long-term relations or normalization with Turkey.

The present situation could lead to another world war. It should not be taken lightly. An extremely dangerous, fatal period has started. We need to look beyond Ukraine. Great shocks are in store on geopolitical fault lines. This may suddenly drive dozens of countries to war.
