It’s a concern but all this is a double edged sword. Certainly the Russian generals told Putin they could take Ukraine, but turning that into an all out war with NATO had to be avoided.
If he starts telling them to fight the US and NATO, they will have bug decisions to make.
It is my understanding the Russians always plan to use nukes if they fight NATO. But that doesn’t mean they want to go down that road.
