Biden’s handling of this was terrible and ultimately the only beneficiary of this will be China. It may be incompetence or it may have been intentional, but it certainly seemed as if Biden was trying to goad Putin rather than defuse things.
This would never have happened with Trump and Pompeo.

There was a report a few hours ago that Ukrainian French Foreign Legion troops were going to Ukraine with full combat gear.
And Sundance’s conclusion, like Ryan in Red October are wrong, all wrong.....to a degree. Sure the toads in Washington want higher gas prices. They stupidly believe the masses will suddenly embrace EV’s and other noble yet stupid ideas.
Clearly we won’t. We will reject them out of hand and the dolts who believe we need to transform society based on the climate change lie. The next election will be a bloodbath for these people. American vote with their pocketbooks, at least those who are alive and those who have not been harvested or cured.
Finally, telling the Chinese something with the hopes they will tell Russia is like 8 years olds telling a friend they like this girl.....it is prepubescent, just like this administration. These asshats see only one checkers move at a time and only see one piece on the board at a time. They can’t see the whole board because they are blinded by their liberal bias.
Real nations tell folks what they are going to do and then they do it. Like Trump would have.

I think someone controlling Biden thought poking the bear and then getting him to back down could be an international “cornpop” moment for old Joe. He needs a win in the worst way and in their infantile minds this was a great idea on how to get one. Make old Joe look tough on the world stage staring down that horrible Putin guy. The media probably already had the stories written. Sadly, for Joe and the people of Ukraine Putin didn’t get the memo.
Geopolitics’ is serious business. It’s not a child’s game and in real life people die when you get it wrong.
Ukraine had a population of about 30m in 1926. Stalin killed 3-10m in the 1930s. The Germans arrived in 1941-1942 to kill and push out the Soviets. If you were a Ukrainian that was still alive, what would you do? The Ukrainians actually believed, at first, that they were getting liberated. So of course they helped the Germans kill and push out the Soviets. It was not for love of the Nazis, if was the necessity to remove the monster Stalin.
Too bad for Ukraine, that the Germans were almost as bad as the Soviets, and then they lost. Another 5-10m Ukrainians died and they still didn’t get rid of the Soviets. Fast forwarded 55 years, and they are finally free of the Soviets.
The government of Ukraine is corrupt, but I can certainly understand that they don’t want the Russians back and I would absolutely expect them to fight very, very hard to stop them.

Seriously? Everyone from WW2 is dead. Ukraine is a democracy attacked by Vlad the Invader.
And no, there are plenty of veterans and survivors of WW2 around the world.
