Eight sobering realities about Putin’s invasion of Ukraine
The Guardian ^ | 02/24/2022 | Robert Reich

Posted on 02/26/2022 11:03:55 PM PST by jdege

The US and allies must be clear-eyed about this: what might the economic and political ripple effects of the war be?

We must do what we can to contain Vladimir Putin’s aggression in Ukraine. But we also need to be clear-eyed about it, and face the costs. Economics can’t be separated from politics, and neither can be separated from history. Here are eight sobering realities:

Reich explains that the sanctions we're putting in place won't hurt Russia badly enough to stop Putin.

And that cutting off Russian oil and gas sales would - but that we won't do that because it will cause us too much harm - creating shortages and significantly raising energy costs at a time when we're already facing inflationary pressures.

Somehow he doesn't mention anything about ramping up domestic production, or slowing down this headlong dash into "green" idiocy.

“liberal democracy, which poses a direct threat to authoritarian “strongmen” like him (just as it did to Donald Trump).”

“ Somehow he doesn’t mention anything about ramping up domestic production, or slowing down this headlong dash into “green” idiocy. ”

That’s because he writes for a hard left rag and can’t print that even though it’s true and financing the war they all wring their hands over 🤪

From the article: “Putin’s real fear is liberal democracy, which poses a direct threat to authoritarian “strongmen” like him (just as it did to Donald Trump).”

It’s hard to take anything else he says seriously.

Robert Reich Is a lying leftist but he is right about why the Biden Regime is not trying to cut off the Russian oil spigot.

Creepy Joe Biden is a gimp that put himself in the Green New Deal barrel and now Putin is raping him through the glory hole.

We have the largest land war in Europe since WW2 in progress. Seems a bit odd he would think to write this now. Why would he think anybody cared? He must have an impossibly huge ego

He’s some kind of professor at UC Berkeley now.

I think he might be lonely and seeking attention (as usual for him jmho). Maybe he’s run out of credibility with USA newspapers which is why he is published in the Guardian (whose editors might not know any better).

One sobering reality he neglects to mention is that the longer this conflict continues, the more likely Ukraine becomes even more of an economic basket case. That’s what happens when you allow passions and emotion to override commonsense. Was it really worth it for Ukraine to give Putin the middle finger at the behest of the US? Let’s see what they think of that decision a few years from now. My guess is they will come to regret it, but hey that’s their choice.

Reich got some of it right then he goes off into a loopy obsession with Trump toward the end that reminds everyone what a nutjob Reich really is.

Did anyone read the "sobering realities" all the way to #8?

Check out the last two sentences of this essay...

"[Putin hopes to] stoke division inside the west by fueling racist nationalism in western Europe and the United States. In this, Trump and Trumpism continue to be Putin's most important ally."

LOL - no matter how irrelevant, the Political Left always finds a way to mention racism and Donald Trump.

I would leave my wallet with Baghdad Bob before Robert Reich.

Reading him is like reading a Stormy Daniels book on the virtues of celibacy.

My eyes hurt from rolling.

A President who was trusted by the people could come before them and say that ending purchases of Russian fuel would hurt everyone, but that returning America to energy independence would benefit everyone in the long run.

I would put up with $6 a gallon gas this year if I could know that the price would be $3 or even $2 by 2024, and that none of my money was funding a dictatorial nutcase.

But the present occupant of the Delaware Mansion? I don’t trust him, or the Jamaican idiot who will take his place, or any of a thousabd or so possible Dem replacements. Trump, DeSantis, or the equivalent, I would follow into hell for the purpose of restoring American paradise.
