Russian President Vladimir Putin is “furious” that his invasion of Ukraine hasn’t been “easy” after Russian troops have been unable to take even one major city in three days of fighting, according to a member of the European Union Parliament who said he was citing Ukrainian intelligence reports.

“Putin is furious, he thought that the whole war would be easy and everything would be done in 1-4 days,” tweeted Riho Terras, who is also the former defense chief of NATO member Estonia, said in a lengthy thread on Twitter.

I believe that you are confusing Gulf War I in 1991 with the Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. The Air campaign in 1991 was 43 days long before the 100 hour long ground combat which defeated the Iraqi armed forces in Kuwait. In 2003 there was no separate Air campaign, as both Air and Ground operations were conducted simultaneously. The start of operation Iraqi Freedom on March 20th, 2003 to the capture of Baghdad on April 9th, 2003 was 16 days, or two weeks and two days, not ”over three weeks” as you stated.

“And that was a bigger Army in a smaller country.”

Ukraine has a land mass that is about 38% larger than Iraq, with a population that is about 3% larger than Iraq. The US and Coalition Forces totaled 177,194 for the initial invasion in March 2003 - consisting of around 130,000 US forces, 45,000 British, 2,000 Australian and 194 Polish commandos. The Russians are estimated to have around 190,000 troops deployed around Ukraine, not all committed in the initial assault.

So, what you are saying is that you have never been in the military and are clueless about boots on the ground or any of the support units with them.   Got it.

Russia was in the same position as Austria-Hungary in 1914. They were getting weaker relative to Russia and Serbia. Pan-Slavic nationalism was strengthening among the Slavs within Austria-Hungary and in the Balkans as more countries were liberated from the Turks.

The Austro-Hungarians had to role the dice and take their chances in 1914.

Isn’t it well known in Western countries that to do business in post-Soviet Russia, you are going to have to pay bribes and deal with all kinds of corruption? I seem to recall George W. Bush chiding Putin on this very subject; something to the effect that corruption needed to be cleaned up to attract Western investment and business in Russia.

Yet people think that Mr. Clean Putin and his cronies are going to root out corruption, trafficking, etc. in Ukraine. Utterly laughable.

Your first paragraph is fine. As we get into the neo NAZIs and bio weapon labs
you lose me.

You may be right.

I can’t say.
