Vladimir Putin’s war with Ukraine is not going to plan due to Kremlin ‘overconfidence’, poor tactical planning, and ‘shock’ at the fierce resistance put up by brave Ukrainians fighting for national survival, intelligence sources have claimed.
Dramatic video shows a destroyed Russian convoy with Z-markings near Kherson in the south of the country on the third day of fighting after Ukraine’s army held control of Kyiv and last night successfully repelled Russian advances on the capital.
Kyiv’s defence ministry has so far put Russia’s losses at around 2,800 troops, 80 tanks, 516 armoured vehicles, and 10 airplanes and seven helicopters so far.

I despise the Freepers who write off the Ukrainian people because their leaders are corrupt. We have even more corrupt politicians! Should we all be thrown under the bus? To confuse the ordinary workers, moms, dads kids of Ukraine (who just want to be left alone to try to live their lives and improve their country) with their corrupt leaders and oligarchs is completely unfair.
The Ukrainians need to mount a Doolittle style raid against Moscow.
Moral support plus undermine Putin. Maybe get some help from the Poles. They gotta understand they’re next up if Putin succeeds.
You guys are utterly delusional.
Every Russian officer is trained in how the Battle of Stalingrad was won. The German 6th Army was encircled. Food cut off, in winter. In just a few weeks they were too weak from starvation to even attempt a breakout. A few weeks after that roughly 250,000 troops surrendered and were marched off to POW camps, where cannibalism held sway. The war ended 1945. So many lives were lost at Stalingrad that the Soviets would not release them until 1949, and the senior German officers . . . not until 1955.
Kiev will run out of food. There is no need to advance and send troops door to door. They are encircled and the Russians will probably encourage more Ukrainians to travel to and join the defense of Kiev. It would increase food consumption.
Then, soon, they will be told all the food they need for the city’s children is just minutes away. All they need do is overthrow the government, or have that government surrender.
This is textbook stuff from Russian military academies. Celebrating their “failure” to take cities is just absurd.
Hopefully this will turn out to be Russia’s Vietnam. Throwing good money down a rat hole...it couldn’t happen to a nicer guy than Putin.
I am fascinated how effective propaganda campaigns are on people, even here on free republic
Seeing videos of russki tank columns, I keep thinking that if the Ukrainians had a couple of fully armed Warthogs, they could really have a good time!
Where did you learn of that? I’ve seen much speculation the last several days that his crazy actions were driven by learning he has a terminal disease, but just speculation.
It is quite interesting how Russia is such a historically slow starter when reviewing the great wars.
Like you said, terrible trouble with little ole Finland early on in WWII (I am convinced this played a major role in Hitlers decision to invade Russia) but by 1945 they were an absolute steamroller. You did not want to be on the field vs Russian forces in 1945
Two large transports carrying top end Russian paratroops approaching Kiev were shot down with no survivors. That has to hurt. 300 first class paratroopers.
> You did not want to be on the field vs Russian forces in 1945 <
Yep. Even today many folks criticize Truman and Eisenhower for not letting Patton take Berlin and Warsaw from the Russians. I suppose we would have won in the end due to our strategic bombing advantage.
But it would have been a terrible, bloody mess.
That’s what happens when folks believe MSM propaganda.... actually, ANY propaganda. And right now, unless you’re getting your info from a trusted and credible relative, that’s ALL we are getting...propaganda!
Is it possible that we’re dealing with a crazed, dying madman with delusions of former Soviet grandeur? Yes.
I think it would have been a cakewalk for us, as the Germans would have been more than happy to surrender to the Americans and Brits to escape the Russians.
But there’s another thing to take into account as to why we let the Russians take Berlin. One, we knew there’d be a lot more dead Russians from it, and second, if Germany just collapsed like it did in 1918, the old “Stabbed In the Back” canard might have reared it’s ugly head.
...relative on the scene
Well, if the Ukes fight off Russia then they would have truly earned their neutrality.
I doubt they’ll last more than a week, but I would love to be pleasantly surprised.
They look at how well Poland is doing and want that.
Poland isn’t globalist. While they’ve joined the EU, they have opposed all the Woke business.
Is there any middle ground in your view? What about us conservatives here in the USA? The democrats control the government, and are globalist. Does that mean we’re part of the Globalists? Of course not!
Also, the Ukrainians appear to want to decide for themselves. They don’t want to be gobbled up by the crocodile to their North.
Like, say, a Canadian trucker?
Economic execution at least.
United States did not lose entire columns of armor, over and over again, with Iraqis crawling all over them with their cell phones saying, “This United States shit is in even worse condition than our own!” (Ukrainian soldiers recently said this when inspecting captured Russian armor-—apparently Russian equipment is still a POS even after 50 years of “modernization”!)
Because it's the farthest from Russia you can get without picking up the country itself and moving it elsewhere.
LOL.
Except here, the Russian troops are Paulus’s 6th Army. The “city” of Stalingrad and the people who lived there survived, just like Kiev will.
