The Ukrainian military allegedly blew up multiple bridges outside of the capital city of Kyiv to stop Russian troops from advancing from Ivankiv, according to multiple reports.
Ukraine’s Ministry of Interior Affairs said that Ukrainian armed forces blew up a bridge in Irpin, around 15 miles west of Kyiv, to prevent Russian forces from approaching the capital, NBC reported.
The Ukrainian Defense Ministry also confirmed that troops exploded the bridge at Ivankiv, about 30 miles north of Kyiv, to prevent a Russian column of forces from advancing towards the capital according to CNN. The ministry said the Russian advance was stopped, CNN reports.
Ukrinform reports that the President’s Office confirmed reports that a column of Russian tanks broke through near Ivankiv and was heading to Kyiv from Vyshgorod.
“Tanks are coming. We are fighting. Fights are coming,” the President’s office said, according to Ukrinform.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine told Ukrinform that the convoy of tanks had been stopped after the Ukrainian military blew up the bridge near Kyiv.
“The bridge was blown up, we stopped them,” the General Staff said.
Images shared on social media taken by Ukrainian media appear to show a bridge blown up.
The Epoch Times has been unable to verify the images.
Reports regarding the bridge come as explosions rocked Kyiv overnight, having been reported in the city around 3 a.m. Friday local time.
Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba announced around 6 a.m. that the city endured “horrific Russian rocket strikes.”
“Last time our capital experienced anything like this was in 1941 when it was attacked by Nazi Germany. Ukraine defeated that evil and will defeat this one. Stop Putin. Isolate Russia. Severe [sic] all ties. Kick Russia out of everywhete [sic],” he wrote.

If bridges are blowing up around Kiev then Ukraine is about to fall in days. I suspect that if the resistance gets too strong in Kiev then then Russia will start a very intense bomb and rocket campaign on critical infrastructure.
Wouldn’t that prevent them from getting out?
Ukraine’s president agreed to negotiations on neutrality (this would entail removal from their constitution the clauses defining intent to join the EU and NATO).
One would think they will be allowed 24-48 hours to agree to Russian terms. At the end of which the advance resumes.
But there will be no need. They will agree. It will be surrender labeled something else.
Why would they want to go east?
I hope they waited for tanks to be on the bridges.

Someone needs to destroy the bridge between Russia and the Crimea over the Kerch Strait.

Russia is going to end up with a land bridge to the Crimea for transportation and water at the end of this operation. That is at least part of what this is about.

There's a real paucity of information about fighting, where the Russians are, what they have taken - and what they have failed to take.
but if they are truly ready to enter Kiev, then it doesn't bode well for the Zelensky regime.
Also, armchair general and historian I am - even more important for the Russians, they will take everything along the Black Sea to Romanian Border, particularly Odessa. They will probably leave a rump, landlocked Western Ukraine, but if 350 years of Russian history has taught us anything - they want total control of Black Sea access. Putin has said nearly as much - talking constantly about the errors of Lenin and Kruschev in bureaucratically creating Ukraine's present borders.
