Authorities in Russia are acting quickly to breakup widespread protests against President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.
Thousands of protesters have been seen in Moscow following Russia’s offensive against Ukraine, with smaller protests springing up in other cities across the country. Russian state media warned citizens that those who participate in unsanctioned protests will be “arrested and brought to responsibility.”

A large crowd was recorded on video gathering in Pushkin Square in Moscow, not far from the Kremlin, in an anti-war demonstration. Demonstrators were reportedly being indiscriminately detained, with some journalists also detained by law enforcement. According to protest monitor OVD-Info, nearly 2,000 people have been detained across 52 cities by Russian police. One protester being detained was seen on video saying “arrest Putin, not me.”
Russian popular sentiment appears to match that of Ukraine and the United States. An AP-NORC survey released Wednesday found that only 26% of Americans think the U.S. should play a “major role” in the conflict.
That is sad. I appreciate the point on the deaths.
From what I have learned reading Russian social media in the last couple of months, Putin’s government takes a major interest in social media, they have people who monitor it constantly, they try to infiltrate protest movements.
Commenters say that you can be arrested just for insulting a government official on social media (I dunno, maybe they are exaggerating here).
Also, apparently they pay a workforce of people to get onto social media sites and repeat the government’s talking points across for a few kopecks. Russians call them Kremlebots.
From what commenters say, I kind of get the picture of some drunk in his underwear with dried borscht in his beard sitting in a dilapidated soviet-style apartment with a rug hanging on the wall, banging away on his keyboard lauding the bald dwarf Putler.
The number I see constantly in Russian social media on this total is not 140,000, but 14,000.
Putin is a Limosine Nationalist, Biden is a Limosine Globaist.
People that think Putin can’t F@ck Up, don’t know the history of world leaders very well.
People that surrond themselves with “Yes Men” are EVEN MORE likely to F@ck Up at some point. They always do.

Also with someone like Putin who becomes more or less ruler-for-life of a country, and however smart they may be they start to lose the distinction between self and country, and tend to think whatever their opinion is must necessarily be the opinion of the people.
And they tend to get grandiose, like Putin giving us his sweeping theories of European history the other day and concluding that Ukraine doesn’t have a right to exist.
Saddam Hussein was that way, as Gaddafi.
He’s too unpredictable for me to guess. Just like I can’t believe Biden and this administration is doing what it’s doing to our country.
Only a neocon or a Democrat would call 1,000 people a “massive protest”.
Both have a hyperbole thesaurus too. So watch out for the super massive protest.
The Russian people would be on the right side of history if they would give Putin the Ceaușescu treatment.
