Viewed from Paris, London and Washington, the events unfolding in Ukraine may seem like a new Cold War taking shape in Europe.
From the Baltic countries, it looks much worse.
To Estonians, Latvians and Lithuanians — particularly those old enough to have lived under Soviet control — Russia’s belligerence toward Ukraine has some worried that they could be the next target. The escalating tensions which preceded an attack Thursday brought back memories of mass deportations and oppression.
“My grandparents were sent away to Siberia. My father was persecuted by the KGB. Now I live in a free democratic country, but it seems that nothing can be taken for granted,” said Jaunius Kazlauskas, a 50-year-old teacher in Vilnius, Lithuania’s capital.

Well, were you ever part of the Soviet Empire?
Them the answer is...probably.
Ukraine is gone. But if NATO is serious, time to deploy British, French and German troops in the Baltics. And back then up with nukes at the Russian border.
I have an acquaintance with Polish connections. Says they are scared shitless.
president potato head's handlers with figure out a way to screw that up.

Depends. If the Russians tanks enter in the Baltics tomorrow, are we willing to nuke Moscow? During the Cold War, that was a given. (Okay. Wrong location. But if they crossed the West Germany border, all bets were off).
We could have done that IF we had pushed an disagreement with Poland. But that would have passed off the fat cats in Germany and everybodyherewho has a day deal with Germany.
An agreement with Poland. Autocorrect on this tablet is my worst enema.
If I have to guess, that the Polish-Ukrainian border is in the far west of Ukraine, I would guess the Poles are amassing troops on the border, as the Ukranians are likely getting as many troops to the east as possible and it is a little early for Russia to be amassing troops in land they have yet to occupy.
But perhaps it is the Germans. Or perhaps the French army hiding from the Germans. Or the Chinese. Or the Martians.
It’s your pronoun, why don’t you tell me?
