Ukraine is being hit by a second wave of missile strikes from Russia following a heavy bombing campaign this morning.

An adviser to the president confirmed the fresh round of attacks after explosions were heard in a number of cities.

Footage shows a military warehouse near Odessa being obliterated while another video appears to show a number of Russian helicopters attempting to seize Antonov Aiport.

The strikes come after Ukraine’s border force confirmed a checkpoint between the Kyiv region and Belarus had been overrun by Russian forces.

Troops and tanks have entered the Vilcha crossing, which lies less than a 100 miles north of the capital on a road which runs directly to the city.

It’s the first sign of a significant ground invasion making a breakthrough in the west of the country.

The checkpoint is around a two-and-a-half drive from Kyiv, which has sustained rocket strikes since this morning.

Stalingrad was to have been a symbolic and strategic victory for Hitler. That didn’t work out for him.

Not symbolic, but certainly strategic. The city was vital.

Hitler, wiser than his generals, sought control of the Volga River and the Caucusus.

FReepers must recall that he couldn't get so much as a thimble of oil over the Atlantic. The oil of Ploesti wasn't anywhere near enough to support the war.

Once Germany lost the Battle of Britain and gave up Seelowe, Hitler *had* to go east and at least try to seize the oil of Maikop and Grozny. He was obliged to launch Barbarossa with mere months of supply.

Stalingrad was a vital part of the plan. However - trying to occupy the city was probably a mistake: Hitler might have been better advised to position guns south of the city to stop tankers from traversing the Volga.

It is interesting that very few are stating these facts. Only Dr Turley and Michael Savage are talking about this. Everyone else is buying the media (left and right) view that its big bad Putin vs tiny Ukraine.
