I think that Trump’s own words suffice for what he meant to say. I’d say that an idiot could outfox Biden. What exactly did Trump say?
He said Putin’s move was “smart” and “savvy” which it appears to be ( I assume you don’t disagree since you didn’t offer anything); he also said “this is genius” which is, in my estimation, way over the top, and he said that Putin is “playing Biden like a drum, and it’s not pretty to see.” He is, and it isn’t. I don’t think it took genius to pull this off. Other than that, I can’t see anything that Trump said that is wrong. Evidently, you can’t either.

They’re not lionizing Putin. They just see him as a better looking pooch in an ugly dog contest.
That is possible. Then again, neither we nor the Russians had a large population of friendlies who spoke our language and shared our culture in Afghanistan. The Russians have that in Eastern Ukraine. I’m just wondering if Mexico will move against some of our border territory. Then again, they pretty much already have it colonized, so it’s not really worth the risk. Also, we have an iron-fisted totalitarian dictator to our immediate north, though he doesn’t appear to have any territorial ambitions at the moment.

No one is rallying to Putin’s side. They are admitting we have no strategic interests at stake.
