NASCAR Daytona 500 ratings not only came in at a three-year high, but they also beat the NBA’s vaunted All-Star Game and the Olympics closing ceremonies for the number of viewers.
Sunday’s NASCAR Daytona 500 netted a 4.7 average rating with 8.87 million viewers on FOX, making it the most-watched Daytona 500 since 2019 (5.3, 9.17M), according to Sports Media Watch.
“Ratings jumped 68% and viewership 81% from last year’s all-time lows of 2.8 and 4.91 million and 7% and 21% respectively from two years ago (4.4, 7.33M). Keep in mind both of those races were severely affected by rain, the former finishing after Midnight ET (the latest ending in 500 history) and the latter primarily run on a Monday,” the site added.
Still, that is an 11 percent drop over the ratings from 2019.
However, the Daytona 500 has been seeing relative declines in viewership for the last five years, this year’s numbers still eclipsed the NBA’s once-popular All-Star Game.
According to Austin Karp, the All-Star Game averaged 6.28 million viewers. That is over 2 million fewer viewers than the 8.87 million the Daytona 500 earned.

I’ve started this weird thing since quitting watching sports...reading books.
If that is improving your intellect too much, may I recommend internet chess and Free Republic to you?
I wish I read more books.
got ya beat. Never watched the Super Bore ((past 6 years) and only learned the Rams won...just a few days ago.
Another type of crash I suppose!
I’ve found that reading books and meditating every day has helped calm my mind.
I have a normally hyper/racing mindset.
Eating healthy and exercise have always been a part of my life.
“I wish I read more books.”
Start small but daily. A chapter a day.
You are winning. I have to admit one slip in the last four or five years.
The Eagles played in the Super Bowl and I watched.
Did not watch.
Will not watch.
And will likely never watch again.
Accordingly, I spend less time with watching sports and more time reading and being productive.
I always root for Lewis Hamilton to crash.
I didn’t even know the NBA all star game happened. Oh well.....
Solo. I hope. And right in front of Toto. I'm okay with most of the other drivers.
Nobody watches Olympic Closing Ceremonies.
As for NASCAR winning, don’t get so excited. They caved to half-breed Wallace’s whining and became NOOSECAR.
Yes, my hate is just for him.
I suspect that new driver George Russell may somehow show that Hamilton's wins resulted more from superior equipment than superior driving.

Prayer has long been a part of my life—I’ve never been much on exercise, though I am a firm believer in manual labor, at least in theory. I teach at the post-secondary level so my relationship with books is complex, but rare is the day when I don’t spend some time with them. I was a bookworm before I met the internet.
"That many viewers just on the hope they get to hear "Let's go Brandon" on live television."
“because nascar is slightly less woke?”
From what I saw they’re working on it though.
When they announced Trace Atkins was gonna sing the National Anthem I almost fell off the couch.
Pre-race it was obvious they were trying to show as many black folks as possible.
On a side note I checked on tickets a couple days before the race and the cheapest I saw was $155. And anybody that’s attended a race knows your just renting a spot to stand.
When tickets for a decent seat at daytona eclipsed $90 I quit going....that and a few other reasons.
Hamilton strikes me is being quite a jackass.
