He’s been very good as a shotgun qb, but owes a LOT to the offensive lines he had through the years. They kept him healthy enough to have a long career.
Playing in offenses like Bradshaw, Staubach, Namath, etc, without the modern rules that help protect that position, he have gotten pounded much, much more.

Playing in offenses like Bradshaw, Staubach, Namath, etc, without the modern rules that help protect that position, he have gotten pounded much, much more.The 60s and 70s were an era of defense in the NFL but today's pros are a pass and catch league with holding being an accepted part of line play.
The rules have changed so much that you cannot even compare the two eras.
