Because we were coming up against Russia as an enemy and the Germans were critical to staying ahead in science, engineering, aerospace, and spy craft.

But that begs the question, did we really ‘win’ the war, or did they? It seems more like a ‘draw’ to me. Where did the Germans get that space technology in the first place?
They just took it seriously sooner than the United States, giving them more time and experience for advanced research. In rocketry, for example, Robert Goddard was ignored in the US even though he made spectacular advancements in rocketry. Von Braun utilized Goddard's work when he started serious rocket research at the age of 17. Von Braun was already pretty far along in most things; and, teamed up with the German military for funding long before the war.
Gyroscopes were used for torpedo guidance even in WWI. Other guidance mechanisms were also used prior to WWII. Von Braun and his staff merely utilized preexisting mechanisms and concepts in a field that wasn't pursued by others. The only things truly innovative in the V2 was the turbo pump that could handle both alcohol and liquid oxygen as well as the graphite vanes for steering rocket thrust.
Absolutely nothing in the German research program was "other worldly". Anyone making contrary claims simply doesn't know the history of aerospace or industrial development.
