An Airbnb user who never intends to leave. Tenants not paying enough rent to keep up buildings. A roommate temporarily renting a room who later decides not to move out.
Under the Legislature’s misleadingly named “Good Cause Eviction” bill, these occupants can all remain in their apartments forever and the property owner has virtually no recourse.
“No Eviction Ever” would be a better name for an absurdly vague, sweeping proposal that would place strict new limits on rent increases and evictions for nearly 1.6 million New York renters.

I would think NYC alone would have double or triple the number of renters. 1.6 million seems like a really low figure.
Been that way for a long time. Remember the movie, “Pacific Heights” with Matthew Modine, Melanie Griffith and Michael Keaton?
Sounds like it. I've never been a landlord, so I have no
knowledge of it.
I'm experienced at an extremely labor-intensive way to
make not a lot of profit - the restaurant business.
Rule #1 of a full-service 3 meal-a-day restaurant is that the
owner/manager gets about 3 hours a sleep at night.
Only way to make money is to get an ABC liquor license.
Virginia allowed me to serve beer and wine, but no hard liquor.
Which worked out well after I built the deck overlooking
the creek, bought and installed the pizza oven, removed
the absurd oversize salad bar the previous owners had put in.
And then arranged for the live bluegrass bands to perform
on the weekends.
Start preparing for the breakfast crowd at 4AM, and finish cleaning
up the kitchen and dining room at 1AM.
Great Fun!
But little/no profits, and no sleep.
Other than that it was great.
These days, it’s best to not owe anyone and get all your taxes filed and paid early.
Spot on analysis.
It’s amazing to see folks like you mention totally oblivious to self sufficiency and are proud actually, of being dependent upon taxpayer largesse. My very first “real” girlfriend’s dad was a “shell shocked” WWII infantry veteran who became an alcoholic and the mom was addicted to NyQuil.
They were on public assistance plus his meager veterans disability payments. They oldest son was the only gainfully employed one in the 6 person family, he was a professional burglar.
Needless to say me and my first “real” girlfriend drifted apart rather quickly. Fast forward 40 years to 2006, I’m sitting at my desktop when that gals memory flashed through my head, so I looked for her on Fakebook and sure enough, there she was.
Here’s the sick part, mom & dad long gone, brother still in/out of prison. She’s twice divorced has two adult children and 3 grandchildren who were of legal age AND the ONE thing they all have in common….
Welfare dependency. That’s 4 generations!
To me welfare is a form of a caste system, how else can you explain multigenerational government dependency? This should not be possible in America.
Right; socialists figured a way around that - with support from elites who didn’t envy the fate of Louis XVI and his wife.
That’s insane; I’m not handy enough to own/operate rental properties, and anyone I know who did got out of them as they aged. They made money, but the tenants’ demands became too much and they physically weren’t able to maintain the properties anymore.
Honestly I view many of those people as bipedal livestock managed by gubmint administrators; they are used to harvest taxpayer dollars and generate useless bureaucrat jobs for another whole caste above them. Mutligenerational poverty has become a lucrative industry unto itself, with strong ties to the public education (breeding children for benefits) and law enforcement industries (raising them so poorly they can’t assimilate with normals, turning instead to lives of crime).
So shocking...... and most of us oblivious to what is happening. Great Reset.... you will own nothing....blackstone will own it all.
Thanx for the links.
I’d never thought of that...and it makes perfect sense.
Albany's government building are shrines to big government and will remain even if empty. Albany's state payroll is insanely high. Detroit ran it's manufacturing businesses out of town, Albany will continue to enlarge government until it's broke.
Couldn’t said it better. GMTA
Thanks; poverty is the pseudo-economy of the states that have destroyed their real economies with anti-business climates.
