LILLEY: Polls show Canadians losing faith in country

We are a divided nation, perhaps more than ever.

It’s not just partisan Conservatives or Liberals trying to score points off of each other who are saying that — Canadians are now telling it to pollsters.

The latest poll doesn’t use those words but the sentiment is there. People are saying they are worried about the future of Canada, don’t think we are able to keep the peace any longer, and have lost faith in institutions and law enforcement.

We have gone from sunny ways to darker days.

The latest poll from Maru Public Opinion conducted Feb. 14-15 found a country in a very negative mood. John Wright, executive vice-president at Maru, said that the last three weeks have had a dramatic impact on how Canadians are viewing their country.

“Their faith has been shaken to the core with respect to some of the most fundamental notions that their country is based on,” Wright said.

The poll found that 66% “fear for the future of Canada,” while 62% say “they have lost faith in the ability of the country to keep peace, order and good government in place.” Those fearing for the future of Canada live in Quebec, where 69% feel that way. They’re followed by all three prairie provinces where that sentiment is held by 68%, compared to 66% in British Columbia, 64% in Ontario and 58% in Atlantic Canada.

Just more than half of Canadians — 52% — believe the country is “beyond broken” and that “it’s just not viable in the way it is currently constituted and being governed.” That sentiment is highest in Alberta at 66%, followed by Quebec at 54%.

You know what. In all honesty, Canada was always pretty cool. A peaceful place, a hardworking intelligent population, well respected around the world. Outdoors activities abounded. Western culture respected.
We Americans teased Canada and there was a lot of humor at their expense...but nobody sane disliked Canada.

I for one am wishing them the best in their fight and am proud of them. They are showing a lot of backbone and hopefully Old Dominion will be restored and our friendship will continue.

Maybe we will discover that American and Canadian normal working class people have more in common with each other than with our governments.

My spin on this is that Canada has been a HAVEN for all sorts of misfits running from their ancestral tribal lands, and got the NEED NO VISA to come to Canada welcome. I think that most of those who sought asylum in Canada, decided to bring their old habits, and carve out a space on Earth for them to live and not become CANADIAN but hang on to their old customs.

Early this evening on my way east on Canada Highway 1 near Abbotsford I witnessed a very large protest on an overpass. The signs read SHAME and UN-CANADIAN.

Of course I gave them a huge blast on my rig’s train horns and enthusiastic thumbs up.

Tomorrow when I cross north again at Pacific Highway, I’m going to yell SHAME at the RCMP JBTs at the new border barricades.

Justin Trudeau is Vladimir Poutine now. No going back!!!

Need no visa? Canada has an excellent immigration system based primarily on merit.

If Canadians are losing faith in their country, I wonder if Americans, British, Australians, New Zealanders and South Africans are keeping or losing the faith in their countries.

I certainly am in America.....society has changed and not for the good. And Government was never doing much more than getting bigger with more restrictions.

It sounds to me like those feeling that way live in the entire country given the numbers in the article.

The deep state types have really screwed up here. They have broken things so badly that I don't know if they can be repaired. Here in the states, we see it more with private companies than we do with government protests, but what once was 'the way things worked' has been thrown out the window and we are in a new place. I don't know if we can ever go back to the old one.

For instance, how does anyone trust any of these Canadian banks again after the actions of the last week? Without everyone in charge stepping down and new people apologizing and putting forth a direction where this never happens again, what can be done to ever repair this betrayal?

That's intentional. Have to break it in order to need to replace it.

“They’re not even a real country anyway.”

It’s an economic territory of the US, with quirky customs and language.

There is a lot about Canada that the American public has roundly ignored. Insane real estate prices driven by foreign and institutional investors. Press restrictions and limits that don’t exist in the US because there aren’t viable markets or environments for free press in Canada. An adorable, but unqualified socialist as Prime Minister. A lot of that was either supposed to land in the US or is getting prepped for departure to America right now.

Deep state Fauci predicted the pandemic back in 2017.

IMO, they(deep state) thought they could keep all scared, monthly vaxxed, and masked up, under their control.

Now it is backfiring on them, where deep state demo governors are giving in because they fear the fate of their political lives.

But Trudeau went full hitler/stalin and I believe he will get his just political deserves.

America today is NOT the country i grew up in- I grew up when people were free by and large- gov left us alone by and large- Men were men and women were women- Those who were gay kept to themselves- and didn’t try to force their immorality on everyone else- there were only two genders- and people were not forced to get largely untested vaccines- We didn’t have presidents that celebrated homosexuality and who pushed for the bastardization of the constitution to accommodate faux gay marriage- Gasoline was .50 a gallon, Ciggs were .40 cents- trucks were nearly affordable- CRT wasn’t even conjured up then- and our country wasn’t over-run with illegals and foreigners who came here, learned to fly, and flew planes into towers- I grew up in a time when we didn’t coddle the poor little feelings of violent criminals, and when we didn’t let killers out of prison because of a virus- while imprisoning supporters because they supported something we didnt’ like

[[losing the faith in their countries]]

I have faith in the country but not in liberals when they are in charge- Nearly everything wrong with our country- is due to liberals, and due to rinos going along with them- Rinos and their bed pales the liberals really started mucking up our country around 20 maybe 30 years ago- and have grown steadily worse every year- until the country i grew up in is unrecognizable practically- (It started before then of course- but it really took off full steam about 20 or so years ago)

Yeah, I know they want that, but at the same time they broke the trust that’s required to allow them to build the replacement. They killed their whole game.
