The US State Department has approved the sale to Poland of 250 Abrams M1A2 SEPv3 tanks, the vehicle's latest version, Poland's defence minister announced on Friday.
The tanks, which come with an estimated purchase price of USD 6 billion, are part of a modernisation programme of the Polish armed forces.
"Very important news for Polish security. The State Department has expressed approval for the sale of 250 Abrams tanks in the most modern M1A2 SEPv3 version. It's an extremely important strengthening of our defence capacity and one of the most important armament contracts in the history of Poland," Mariusz Blaszczak wrote on Twitter.

NATO will be stronger because of Putin's aggression.
“The Polish government announced its desire to buy the American tanks last year and Blaszcak said the first batch of them would reach Poland in 2022.”
“[Mr. Putin has sought to weaken NATO, but the weeks of tension over Ukraine have had the opposite effect, said Mr. Austin, who met with NATO leaders in Brussels on Tuesday.
“What Mr. Putin did not want was a stronger NATO on his flank, and that is exactly what he has today,” he said.
The significance of Mr. Austin’s announcement was the strong message it sent to Mr. Putin, said Samantha de Debendern, an expert on Eastern Europe at Chatham House, a British think tank.
“It is basically saying: ‘Not only are we not going to do any of the things that you asked us to do, we are actually reinforcing NATO’s presence on its eastern front,’” she said, referring to demands by Mr. Putin that NATO pull back troops from countries such as Poland that joined the alliance since 1997.]”
Whole thing has been a fire sale for the military industrial complex.
Hmmmm.
I had read somewhere that the M1-A1 assembly site was closed due to no US orders.
This order will keep them busy for a while.
The military industrial complex is just wild about the expansion of NATO.
This is the way to go about it. Rather than being the world’s policeman, America should be the armorer of the world’s policemen.
The military industrial complex ==> AKA, The Arsenal of Democracy.
And here comes the US Department of New Tanks about to rake in some serious dough, ray, me!!
The Germans wouldn’t sell them Leopards? Or they probably wanted to lock the Americans in.
When does our border get 250 tanks?
the heavies roll in!
but will they actually meet the contribution targets
A collective IQ of 73
The Poles have bad memories of their interactions with the Germans.
NATO already is stronger material wise.
Leadership wise? Nope. All they know how to do is flap their gums.
Poland is the first line of defense per Russia.
NOT UKRAINE.
Poland can get a better price from the Taliban.
Thats it John.
This comes down to the military industrial complex and the ten per cent for the pig faced son of a b in the White House.
What expansion, Poland is already a NATO member.
