A Minnesota judge on Friday sentenced former police officer Kim Potter to two years for fatally shooting a Black motorist 10 months ago.
Hennepin County Judge Regina Chu handed down the “significant downward” punishment for the former Brooklyn Center police officer after emotional courtroom statements from the victim's loved ones and the defendant herself.
Chu ordered Potter to spend two-thirds of her sentence behind bars and one-third of it on supervised release. She's already served 58 days behind bars, which will go to her credit.

Seams reasonable. Now watch the feds go after her for a civil rights violation.
To: NautiNurse
The judge was obviously a white supremacist since she downgraded the sentence to...oh, wait. /s

“Seems reasonable. Now watch the feds go after her for a civil rights violation.”
I don’t think they will, not because they wouldn’t want to, but because it is an election year, and the Biden regime isn’t going to want to create a cause celeb that might end up being to their election efforts detriment.

Prison time....
May God watch over and protect her in that confined den of criminals.
Each blames someone else——such as the police-—for their getting caught and sentenced to lawful punishment.

Meanwhile Alec Baldwin hasn’t even been arrested and last time I checked the woman he shot wasn’t putting the lives of police officers in danger with her car.

They could turn things around if they started shooting the looters/arsonists
Just displaying firearms at ‘mostly peaceful’ protestors can result in felony charges—not for the protestors, of course.

The courts are garbage. From the various cases I have watched and of those of which I had personal knowledge, the Courts almost always come to the wrong verdict.
They do not know what they are doing. They are stupid and incompetent.
A dice roll would give a better more just result most of the time.

It was an accident: ideally would have been six months or less.
To: DiogenesLamp
I agree, but my experience of 50 years ago was very different. The verdicts were sometimes wrong, but the overall performance of the courts, the lawyers, and the jurors were much more competent back in those days.
To: centurion316
I must admit that most of the garbage verdicts I have seen occurred in the last 20 years.
I think everyone was a lot more competent 50 years ago, and it didn't matter what the vocation was.

That seems fair. She made a stupid mistake but it did cost someone their life. I hope she no longer can work in law enforcement.

Also a lot less politicized than now. There's a whole lot of studying of which way the political winds are blowing before doing what should be, used to be, a standard of conduct that was to be expected in a righteously functioning civilization.
