Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) warned on Thursday that he will block quick passage of a symbolic resolution supporting Ukraine and sending a warning to Russia unless it incorporates changes he wants.
“We have some amendments to it. We believe that it should say nothing in this resolution is to be construed as an authorization of war and nothing in this resolution is to be construed as authorizing the use of troops into Ukraine,” Paul said.
Paul said that he offered the amendments to sponsors of the resolution on Wednesday night but they were rejected. He said that he would object to quickly passing the resolution if it doesn’t incorporate his amendments.
Because the bipartisan group is trying to pass the resolution by unanimous consent, they need buy-in from every senator to allow the resolution to pass quickly.
Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) said that he was in talks with Paul.
“We’re working through it,” Portman said.

I still predict a long disastrous war for Russia if they invade.
One of less than a handful of Senators & Reps that actually cares about the American people.
But Rand wants more foriegn workers.
I predict the opposite, but Russia doesn’t want to take over a failing state rapidly depopulating & industrially backwards. Would be a drain.
Hope you are correct.
Keep it up, Senator Paul. We have huge issues afoot and cannot waste time or energy kowtowing to the neocon love of war. Not at this time and not in that place We ought to be starring down China and threatening holy hell if they so much as glance at Taiwan through all of this. It’s like our neo cons are trying to create the strategic distraction to force our government to take it’s eye off the prize.
I predict a long disastrous war for the United States if we think we can do a lot about it. Unless we go all in. Then it will be a really short disastrous war.
an authorization of war?
Needs repeating.
I agree 100%. But the congress is full of neocons who just love to fight foreign wars on borrowed money, and seldom send their children to the combat zone.
Why do these politicians signal their threats? Don’t threaten, just do it. Why give the other side a heads-up as to your possible actions? Is he just trying to make brownie points with his constituents?
“ I still predict a long disastrous war for Russia if they invade.”
Wasn’t there a large stockpile of nukes in Ukraine, which were “removed?”
Anyone who believes the US should do anything about it is not a Conservative.
This Russia thing is a litmus test and I’m seeing many halfwit hypocrites here at FR.
“I still predict a long disastrous war for Russia if they invade.”
The invasion would not be that much of a problem, but maintaining an occupation...well, that could very well collapse Russia in the interim.
That is my litmus test and Rand fails.
I happen to agree with him that we have no national interests in Ukraine worth fighting over.
The whole Russia Russia Russia thing is bogus warmongering to divert attention from the failed Brandon Junta’s marxist economic and social catastrophe, and destruction of the American way of life, starting with the Vote, then the whole Covid bullshittery, the invasion of the southern border of multimillions of illegal aliens flown around the country and housed at tax payer expence, now gaslighting, censorship, military demoralization, sexual perversion and open thievery from innocent Americans.
“One of less than a handful of Senators & Reps that actually cares about the American people.”
Seconded. Good to finally agree with you
They should be STOPPING every Bill until Brandon and the hooker are gone
You guys have forgotten the Reagan truth...Peace through Strength. You stand up to the bully to prevent war.
Simply threatening Russia with economic sanctions here.
