It appears that a beta test of former President Trump’s new social media platform, Truth Social, is underway and here is his first post, via Donald Trump Jr.

But this does raise questions about current Twitter competitors like Paler and Gettr. What happens to them?
Trump's "Truth Social" launching a beta version is terrible news for Gettr as users are talking about leaving the platform led by ex-Trump aide Jason Miller. "I am soooooooooo looking forward to the release of Truth Social, and migrating over to that platform!" one user wrote.

As for Gettr, the main financier of the site just declared bankruptcy:

I wonder how theyll deal with trolls.
Since the purge of independent and conservative thought on the "big tech" platforms, I've been inactive on social media except here on Free Republic.
I really miss being on Twitter as I was able to set up newsfeeds for myself from trusted sources. Despite the despicable actions of the Twitter management to censor free thought and "cancel" people they didn't like, it really was a great interface, both on mobile and desktop.
I have accounts on GETTR, Parler and Gab, but sadly, none of those sites ever appealed to me. I don't want an echo chamber, I want intelligent discourse and discussion.
The Twitchy article sounded like GETTR isn’t doing very well. What do you think of it?
I’ve contributed twice to get on a “Founders” link. Nothing’s been returned via email except more pleas for more contributions. :-/
BTW, could traffic get too big? As it is, I spend all my free time on FreeRepublic!

Censor and get rid of them. There is no free speech on someone else's platform or company. FR, Twitter, etc has every right to ban or cancel who they choose.
I agree. The platforms that don't block trolls are, for me, unusable. The trolls stink them up to the point that, if you see a video you want to share, you really can't because of the crap in the comment section. I agree with FR's policy of blocking trolls who cross the lines of decency.
You can be sure, just as in the case of Parlor and others that big tech will make it to difficult to navigate to.
In the case of Parlor you basically had to enter the URL directly in the address bar. You could not search for “Parlor” and ever get results that linked to their site.
I was kicked off Twitter years ago. I used to read tweets on Twitchy: post your looking at, plus 2 responses, followed by about 20 more tweets. Then, all of a sudden, they started popping in a log in screen, after 2 tweets.
It is available in the iPhone app store for pre downloading. I pre scheduled its download.
2/21 the date it will become available according to what I’m seeing on the web.
They need a purity test question. Such as how many sexes are there? Can men get pregnant? Do women have penises? If they give the wrong answer they have to then take an IQ test. The must score over 100 to join.
I hope this is the real thing. They have been bombarding me with emails, texts, phone calls saying that the app was going live since the 2020 election. EVERY SINGLE NOTICE regarding the Trump app has been ONLY a request for money. I donated monthly to MANY Republicans in 2020 and have continued with 12 of them since, regardless of whether they are from my state. But I will not increase the donation or give to other campaigns going forward because of what can only be described as insulting harrassment...”we heard that you now support Biden,” “it has been reported that you have become a Democrat,” etc. At least 50 texts and 50 emails every day and 25+ phone calls every day...even after I contiunually opt to “stop” or “unsubscribe.” Sorry, if this is the way it will be going forward, my donations are capped where they are now and may even be cancelled.

Does that mean all the harassing demands for money will stop?
If they have monopoly control like YouTube then they can be regulated and prevented from censoring some content. If they censor then they are behaving as a publisher rather than like a phone company and can be sued for the stuff they don’t censor. It’s not black and white.
