Also, if it’s a “highly pathogenic” virus, why are they having to go out and do tests and then cull the flocks? Shouldn’t the be falling out of the sky (or coops)?

As long as I can ignore it like previous bird flu and swine flu is, I’m golden. However, if they try to control me like they did with covid, this is not going to go well.
Fortunately we have been buying a ton of canned chicken from Costco. Will be good for a few years at least.:)

Avian influenza can be carried by almost any bird, but realisitcally only aquatic birds carry it. Feeding is not recommended if you have poultry: https://ask.usda.gov/s/article/Should-bird-feeders-be-taken-down-to-prevent-the-spread-of-diseases-such-as-bird-flu but otherwise doesn't seem urgent.
Do not blame the people for this.
Wouldn’t properly cooking chicken be a non-factor? Why destroy thousands of future chicken patties?
