Show me the evidence. Should have gone to discovery. They would have won with this fake massacre
That is my point exactly. Remington should have gone to trial.
They did not sell the weapon to the guy, they did not know he would kill his mom and steal it from her, it was not an automatic weapon...
But they capitulated and settled. Now the gibmedats will be suing any chance they get because they will believe the Arms companies will settle rather than go to trial.
Now the question is can the families of the people who were killed and injured by the guy who plowed through the crowd in WI. sue the maker of the SUV?
As I mentioned, it is certainly possible to use 20-20 hindsight to revisit the whole story about Lanza. I think it is logical to believe that his mother wasn't suicidal, and pretty much any law enforcement agency or even his psychiatrist or GP would have taken action if they knew his intent and plans.
At the time of the incident there was speculation that Lanza decoded the combination of the safe by trial and error. Some kinds of people with mental illness have the patience to repeat procedures many, many times more than is typical for people without that kind of illness.
So perhaps all firearms safes should require 8 or 10 digits instead of 4.
Blaming his first victim seems a bit heartless. I tend to blame the person who commits the crimes, and if you want to assign blame elsewhere assign it to the professionals who failed to properly treat or confine Lanza.
That iteration of Remington (and its subsidiary brands) ceased to exist some time ago, as noted in the comments about the bankruptcy posted upthread. The current owners of Remington's designs, trademarks, intellectual property, etc., are not about to step into the former owner's legal shoes and risk getting hosed by an emotional jury.
Also, keep in mind that while these sort of out-of-court settlements may impact the cost of insurance to firearm manufacturers going forward, they do *not* set legal precedent.
This has been ongoing for so long now, I forget the details... though I think it was something to do with the way Bushmaster (Remington) chose to advertise the rifle.
You can now! The president for product liability has been set. What a sad day for America when things instead of people are held accountable for their actions.
Damn it! That was supposed to be precedent not president. Stupid talk to text doesn’t always work right.

Honestly I don’t know if there were warning signs or not, but if there were and she ignored them then IMO she bears some blame for the tragedy.
BTW, I’m not heartless, but if I ever need a cardiac operation they’ll have to find a geologist and a micro-surgeon. :-)
Probably what was left of the corpse - what the bankruptcy trustee was still administering.
