Kia leads J.D. Power's Vehicle Dependability Study for 2022

For the first year ever, Kia leads J.D. Power's annual Vehicle Dependability Study with a score of 145 problems per 100 vehicles. Buick (147) and Hyundai (148) round out the top three. The highest premium brand on the list is Genesis, with a score of 148.

The Korean brands seem quite popular here in the South. Of course, many of them are made here in West Point GA and Montgomery AL, for Kia and Hyundai respectively.

One of the factors in my purchase of a 2022 Genesis G80 was its reputation for reliability. Glad to see Genesis up in the top four of this study

I am also surprised by Honda/Acura. My wife had an Acura MDX for many years and miles and currently has a 2014 Acura RDX. Other than normal maintenance and wear and tear, both vehicles have been near flawless.

I drive a 2000 Kia sportage, manual 4wd. I love it! Putts right along it does.

Honda? My 2001 and 2007 Honda CRVs were without issues well into over 250K miles. My 2015 CRV turned to mechanical crap at 80K. Assembled in Mexico.

Genesis is the Hyundai luxury brand, and Korean.

Hyundai and Kia are basically the same, since they're the same company, with different titles for the same cars which have slightly different looks.

A buddy of mine traded in a 2 year old Hyundai Palisade (top of line SUV), which he liked very well, for a Genesis GV80, which he likes even better, mostly for the additional 100 hp. They are both impressive vehicles. He came out of a Q7, and a Lexus GX before that, so he knows what a high line SUV is about.

I was thinking the same thing. “The carpet is loose in the corner” is a bit different from “my axle fell off.” How about some other metric, like the cost of repairs.

I felt the same way until 2019 when KIA started killing it on JD Powers.

Every time I rented a car it would be a KIA. Then I bought a Sportage. I like it a lot and am very happy with it.

I know. The underlying Hyundai infrastructure of service locations and fantastic inherited warranty were a couple of other factors.

The lines on the car are quite beautiful to my eyes. The G80 creative designer used to work for Bentley. You can see some commonalities. Plus, all the bells an whistles of the electronics on a Mercedes E-class for $20k less put me over the top. 300HP on 2.5L Turbo inline 4. Very happy with it.
