Reynolds v. Sims.
I became a DeSantis fan when he went to Brandon FL to deliver his speech. Told all my (sane) friends and they loved it.
I live in the rural part of the 5th District in between Jax and Tallahassee. It replaced Corinne Brown’ salamander district under a court order that the majority minority district go east-west instead of north-south. De Santis’s map has regularly shaped districts encompassing similar populations for the most part. I hope he’s able to prevail!
Go Ronnie Go!
CNN/LA Slimes Partisan Media Shills and Stooges alert.
Because we have this silly little thing called the United States Constitution. That document mandates that the House of Representatives much be comprised of members elected by voters of districts of equal (or close to) populations. Districts have never been defined by counties and never will.
This is a screaming surrender from the Nazi trolls at CNN.
“Wow, I didnt realize there were that many counties. I must be stuck in the 13 colonies days.”
Unless you have a knife and flint and char cloth to start your hearth, like I do, you’re not stuck in colonial 18th century America.
Cheers.
<>That document mandates that the House of Representatives much be comprised of members elected by voters of districts of equal (or close to) populations.<>
That is flat out false.
Among its worst decisions is one from fifty years ago that today’s social justice warriors just love. Alabama plaintiffs in Reynolds v. Sims (1964) sought 14th Amendment relief from state legislative districts with unequal populations.
Progressing the Constitution - One Man One Vote (Part I of V).
Lol. Im more of a bow drill type.
” Im more of a bow drill type.”
Our good Lord must have blessed you with countless layers of skin to use that bloody contraption. LOL!
I am wrong, you are correct. The Supreme Court did it. See Wesberry v. Sanders, decided in 1964. The Court held that Article I, Section 2 mandated that congressional districts be equal in population “as nearly as is practicable.” In doing so, the Court relied heavily on statements made at the Convention in favor of representation according to population. These comments, however, were made during debate over the proportional representation of the states in Congress, not the manner in which Representatives would be selected according to the first paragraph of Article I, Section 2. Nevertheless, later that year, in Reynolds v. Sims, the Court extended the doctrine of “one person, one vote” to state legislatures, based on the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. In Lucas v. 44th General Assembly of Colorado, decided the same day as Reynolds, the Court applied the equal population rule to overturn a state districting plan that the state’s voters had specifically approved, including a majority of voters in those parts of the state underrepresented by the plan.
Practice made perfect. I can get an ember pretty quick as long as it isnt raining. Lol
There is not a single republican I have seen since I arrived in USA in 1960, who has the charisma of Donald Trump. You have to attend one of his rallies to understand the energy he generates in the audience. No other republican could do it before and no one will do it in future.
MAIN reason Trump lost in 2020 was because he came across as not taking the Chinese virus seriously. He said it was just another flu and will die away when the warm summer weather arrives. Biden on the other hand was hiding in his basement with masks. That gave (false) impression that Biden was serious about the pandemic. In reality, Trump did more to fight the virus, using his can-do business skills. But in politics perception trumps reality.
AND they’re both CNN...
A simple computer program could solve this “problem!”
Resolution of problems is NOT in the Democrat politician’s playbook!
Maintaining power is!
I would find it fine if Florida had one state senator for each county. That would increase the number of senators from 40 to 67, incidentally. Unfortunately, that would also violate that ding dong SCOTUS ruling in Reynolds v. Sims.
That’s one reason I like DeSantis: he’s actually willing to play rollerball against the Democrats, while the RINOs and GOPee play golf.
