Ontario Premier Doug Ford has declared a state of emergency in an effort to put an end to the “siege” in Ottawa and Windsor as the truck convoy protests continue to disrupt traffic and prevent the transport of goods across the Canadian border.

Ford made the announcement Friday at Queen’s Park, saying he will convene cabinet and “use legal authorities to urgently enact orders” that will protect international border crossings, as well as the 400-series highways, airports, bridges, ports and railways in the province.

Fines for non-compliances will be severe, the premier said, with a maximum penalty of $100,000 and up to a year imprisonment.

Ford said and I quote, “”Your right to make a political statement does not outweigh the right of hundreds of thousands of workers to earn their living.”

I’d like to nominate this statement as Hypocrisy of the Millennium.

His statement is EXACTLY what their government, our government and others all over the world have been doing with their political statements around the pandemic, condemning hard working people to losing jobs, losing businesses, losing livelihoods and abridging their freedoms. What a maroon.

He wants those protestors to go home. He wants to arrest them at home, it is the government’s go-to plan. He will send troops in the middle of the night and drag them out, threaten families, and seize equipment... all nice and neat and out of other’s eyes.

The protesters staying have disrupted those plans. Government can arrest them but moving the trucks will be a major undertaking.

The worst optic will be after the arrests, trucks still clogging the streets. Government will be seen as evil and incompetent.

That doesn’t work out well for totalitarian governments.

His brother was the Mayor of Toronto. His wikipedia entry is much more interesting.
