Insults, hypocrisy on steroids and a 'Spidey'-free show stain the fading institution
Jimmy Kimmel did something very few comedians accomplished in Oscar history.
The “Jimmy Kimmel Live” propagandist hosted the annual gala not once but twice. And while Billy Crystal, Bob Hope and Johnny Carson topped that number, most comics can only dream of doing so even once.
Yet the Oscar veteran openly mocked the gala this week shortly after the Academy unleashed its latest round of award nominations.
“The biggest snub today in my opinion, and I’m actually even angry about this, I’m kind of embarrassed to say, is the unforgivable omission of Spider-Man: No Way Home … You’re telling me Don’t Look Up was better than Spider-Man? It certainly was not.”
Kimmel even cited the two films’ Rotten Tomatoes scores to illustrate the problem. Hint: Spidey wins the day here, yet the “rotten” climate change satire still earned multiple major noms to just one for “No Way Home.”

at least they don’t have to wear masks. I wonder if the little people work crews have the same excemption.
Who won Mandatory Best Token?
More like a clockwork orange type of viewing, strapped in and eyelids taped open.
I’m all done with Hollywood.
But I will say: I think movies basically fall into 3 categories — 1) Art (ex. “Citizen Kane”), 2) Entertaining (ex. “Indiana Jones”), 3) Political Propaganda (”Don’t Look Up”)
And, of course, some movies straddle 2 or more of those categories.
I can certainly see why an industry would give awards to movies that would be considered either Art or Entertainment or both.
But all they ever do is give awards to Political Propaganda. It’s disgusting.
Oscars? We talkin’ the weinermobile?
Other than Dune, most of the best picture nominees were bombs. I never even heard of them. Even when people were desperate for new entertainment. Bet this years broadcast will have record low ratings.
I won't be watching movies in theaters and may only catch them on the streaming services.
Terrible plots and while insulting your “customers.” Their business model is broken and as a business, it is doomed to fail.
Did everyone attending fly in on their private jets?
There used to be a time in Hollywood when actors and actresses were good people. A few may still be. For the most part now, they are narcissistic, materialistic self proclaimed gods and goddesses who put on these awards programs only to worship themselves and each other, while “allowing” us the privilege of watching them do it.
It’s been decades since I’ve watched any of them.
How DARE THEY tell us what to think! Just because they have more money than most of us, it doesn’t make them any smarter- just the opposite- they do NOTHING to improve this country. During WWII they sold war bonds and went on USO tours, also visiting the troops in Korea and Vietnam.
They cared about this country, they cared about our troops.
They can feed their egos all they want. I have better things to do with my time.
Don’t get me started on the NFL….
I haven’t watched these virtue signaling clowns since sometime in the last century.
I worked with an Academy member on a video project some years ago and he revealed a bit of a secret to me - If an Academy member dies, his or her spouse takes their place and becomes a voting member. You end up with dynasties of marginal taste and industry inbreed servility.
