All Central Coast counties will lift their local mask orders along with state

Monterey and Santa Cruz counties will follow San Benito County and the state in lifting their local mask orders.

Last week, Gov. Newsom announced the state would be lifting its mandate on Feb. 16 after two months of having it in place. The announcement came as cases continue to drop from the winter peak.

On Wednesday, Santa Cruz and Monterey counties joined 10 Bay Area counties announcing they would lift their indoor mask mandates on Feb. 16.

Under state orders, masks are still required in indoor settings for:

Unvaccinated persons

K-12 schools/child care

Public transportation

Health care settings

Congregate settings

After reaching a high on Jan. 18 of 980 new cases per day, Monterey County’s case rates have rapidly declined to a 7-day average of 105 per 100,000 on Feb. 8 and continue to drop. Meanwhile, hospitalizations, a lagging indicator of the disease, have begun to drop and never exceeded the county’s capacity during this latest surge.

“Although omicron was responsible for the highest estimated case rate to date, increasing vaccination coverage and use of face coverings allowed us to keep students in classrooms and to safeguard our health care system,” said Monterey County Health Officer and Director of Public Health Dr. Edward Moreno.

We all know that Newsom the Vile is owned -- lock, stock and little barrel -- by the teachers unions, but I didn't think that political fact of life would cause him to continue to threaten, abuse and endanger the lives of California children ... but it does and I can't help but notice he sort of enjoys weilding his autonomous power over vulnerable children.

While I agree with you overall, there isn't a COVID-19 vaccine mandate in California. Yet.

My teenagers are still required to wear face masks at school though, which is stupid, pointless and tyrannical.

Thanks for keeping me straight on the vaccine mandates, SS. Yes, they're due to be implemented in the fall and maybe -- just maybe -- this will already be behind us by then. In the meanwhile, the Democrat/Communis/Left legislature in California is entertaining several bills to have this mandate put into effect sooner ...
