Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker is set to announce a plan to roll back indoor mask requirements this afternoon.
Pritzker is scheduled to give an update at 2 p.m. Wednesday on COVID-19. He is expected to announce a plan to roll back mask requirements for most indoor settings.
"The intention is to lift the mask mandate in indoor locations by Feb. 28," said Pritzker at an unrelated press conference Wednesday morning.
Masks will still be required in some settings, including "sensitive locations such as K-12 schools," according to Pritzker.
New York is expected to announce its plan for dropping indoor mask mandates Wednesday as well. New Jersey and California have already announced their plans to drop their mandates.
Republican critics of the governor have already started commenting on the situation.
"I hope he does what other Democrat governors around the nation are doing and say that masks are done," said Republican House Leader Jim Durkin, R-Western Springs.
Durkin also noted that Republican leadership has not been included in the discussion of mask mandates.
"He is excluding Republicans on dialogue on major issues," Durkin said.
The question of mask requirements in schools is one of the issues at the center of a legal battle currently working its way through the court system in Illinois.
A series of lawsuits spearheaded by Greeneville attorney Thomas DeVore has resulting in a temporary restraining order going into effect Friday which voids several COVID--19 related emergency rules from the state's health department and board of education.
That suit is currently in appeals court in Springfield.

SB 3961 is scheduled to be heard today in the Senate Health Committee at 3:30 PM. It removes all references to gender in an abundance of laws pertaining to children.
Replaces “he,” “she,” “his,” “her,” “himself,” “herself” with the child, the minor, oneself, the member
Replaces “biological family” with birth family
Replaces “uncle,” “aunt,” “nephew,” “niece,” with parent’s sibling and sibling’s child
Replaces “step-father,” “step-mother” with step-parent
Replaces “step-brother,” “step-sister” with step-sibling
Replaces ”mother,” “mother who gives birth” to person who gives birth
Illinois has no need for lawmakers to re-write the English language to accommodate the demands of left-wing ideologues.
There are far more important issues that should be addressed in this abbreviated session and no need for this science and biology-denying legislation.
HB 4640 is scheduled to be heard in the Human Services Committee tomorrow at 9 AM. It creates the Access to Public Health Data Act. HB 4640 would enable the Department of Public Health to breach Illinois resident’s private medical records and adopt “any rules necessary” to
“make any and all public health data related to residents of that local health department’s jurisdiction available to that local health department for the purposes of preventing or controlling disease, injury, or disability.”
Even more eye-opening is this section. It would give the Department of Public Health
“supreme authority in matters of quarantine and isolation, [so that they] may declare and enforce quarantine and isolation when none exists....”
HB 4247 is scheduled to be heard in the Higher Education Committee tomorrow at 4 PM. It creates the Public Higher Education Act, which makes
“emergency contraception available for purchase through at least one vending machine located on each campus under its jurisdiction.”
The bill states that emergency contraception will be made available on all Illinois public universities, colleges or community colleges at a reduced price.
Emergency contraception is also known as the “morning after pill” and according to whyprolife.com works as an abortifacient in two ways:
First, it can damage the lining of the uterus so that the human embryo will not be able to implant itself and continue developing. A second way is that it can cause the woman’s body to reabsorb the embryo, which has already attached to the womb, ending its life.

Polls must show the rats with a minus 387 favorable rating on this issue for so many to be falling all over themselves to drop mask mandates.
