Minnesota resurrects California’s failed single-payer health care bill: Not even the California Democrats were crazy enough to fall for this

Rep. Cedrick Frazier (D-MN) is giving single-payer health care advocates new hope in Minnesota after California’s $400 billion single-payer bill died in early February. Although Frazier’s bill has not yet been scored by Minnesota fiscal analysts, assuming California’s $10,000 per-person cost, and $163 billion tax increase were cast proportionally across 5.7 million Minnesotans, it would create a $23.2 billion per year tax increase and more than double Minnesota’s entire budget. And that’s only part of the problem.

Frazier’s proposal would replace private health insurance in Minnesota with an unelected board to “cover all necessary care, including dental, vision and hearing, mental health, chemical dependency treatment, prescription drugs, medical equipment and supplies, long-term care, and home care,” and pay for this “free” care with a mix of new taxes on individuals and businesses, while somehow redistributing existing health care spending.

How do you provide unrestricted free dental, mental, behavioral, and long-term care to any person who resides or plans to reside in Minnesota? As expensive as that might sound, doubling the state budget isn’t enough. California looked at cutting hospital rates 50 cents on the dollar, before quietly killing the bill.

Frazier, a freshman legislator, seems at first glance to be an unlikely choice to carry the massive legislation. He has no background in health care and does not serve on a health committee. A quick read of the bill looks more like vague talking points. House File 1774 creates a new Health Board to “allow patients to choose their providers, reduce costs by negotiating fair prices and cutting administrative bureaucracy, not by restricting or denying care.” That is, of course, a platitude, not something you can legislate. The problem is that nobody will tell that to Frazier.

Its all the Socialist Universities in Minneapolis driving this.
“You want free stuff and also stick it to the rich...you got it”
Sure glad I left MN.
Makes CA look conservative right now.

This may sound racist ... but Minnesota was not like this decades ago. Look to the change in Demographics for your answer.

It’s been like that for decades. It’s a Scandinavian socialist mentality that unlike the Dakotas they never outgrew.

I dont know Minnesota politics, but I wouldn’t be so sure. I was pleasantly surprised when the Assembly here in CA failed to pass it two weeks ago. It was projected each year to cost about 150% of the entire state budget to implement. Its defeat in the Legislature showed there may some depths of insanity to which even our dedicated lunatic legislators are unwilling to go

The California plan also called for the loss of Medicare benefits with that money going to the State. And the cost of the plan exdeeded the entire State annual budget!

What the hell is in the water in Minnesota?

Leftist self-hatred.

The only known cures are being shot in the street, BLM-style, followed by three years of wearing stupid masks.

Minnesota has gone complete socialist thanks to the liberals who have kidnapped the state. No reason to live there. The Twin Cities are dangerous, taxes are high, boondoggle light rail is a bankrupt scam, Democrat politicians feed the union hog, and restrictions abound. The land of 10,000 aggravations.

Minnesota is ruled at the state and federal levels by a 55 mile by 70 mile rectangle centered on The Twin Commie Cities.

Vote fraud for DECADES in that Golden DFL Rectangle.

The MinneCommies revealed this in the 2020 "election" by coughing up DFL Collin Peterson's Minnesota 7th CD to Republican Michelle Fischbach, 53% to 40%.

If Basement Joe's Minnesota "victory" was so overwhelming - why couldn't his coattails drag along a House member who'd been in office for 30 years, HMMMMMMMMM?

Because Minnesota's 7th CD is outside the reach of the ballot harvesters of the Golden DFL Rectangle, that's why...

What the hell is in the water in Minnesota? Moscow on the Mississippi.

see my post #14 for the Cliff Notes version.

If you only need a few square miles in a state, it's easy-peasy for the Demoscat fraudsters.

Same deal in Kansas - a 20 mile by 20 mile square gets them a governorship and a US House seat.
