A bystander filmed while two officers pulled over Gerry Charlebois, 78, for beeping his horn.
'What did he do wrong?' the bystander asked. 'None of your f****** concern, man,' one officer responded.
Officers went back and forth with onlookers and Charlebois. Eventually an officer in a blue surgical mask grabbed Charlebois and tried to restrain him, bringing the vaccinated great-grandfather down to his knees in the middle of the street before handcuffing him against his van.

LEOs are our friends. Until they are not.
I think most folks think of the police highly due to the protective roles they serve, such as dealing w/murder, rape, robbery, etc..
The problem starts when they move away from that and simply become enforcers of the state's will.
In that context, they are the ones to apply the yoke of obedience.

Anyone knowledgeable with Canadian law? Can they arrest people for making too much noise on an open street? How does one measure too much—they carry decibel meters?

In most places there are noise ordinances. Usually at late hours. Even if the cops do get called on your party while playing the music too loud they will ask you to turn it down.
Perhaps if they are called out an hour later they will give you a citation and fine.
I’ve never been involved in anything like that (always invite your neighbors to the loud party!), but I’m guessing it would take quite a bit to get arrested for a noise ordinance.
This reminds me of the recent article of the small town in Alabama where the police pull over anybody over the smallest infraction, then find other stuff, and fine them out the whazoo.
Did you know that in Alabama it is illegal to drive in the left lane of a highway for more than 1.5 miles!? Even if you are passing folks and not impeding traffic!?
They should bring in a great big flock of Canada geese and let them do the honking.
This story isn’t anywhere other than the conservative media. The politicians can ignore it safely.
The fascists declared honking to be a crime. That action is invalid and illegal. Those who declared it and enforced it are unworthy of holding public office.
I suspect comment was made out of frustration, but arresting a 78 year old man after forcing him to his knees, are the LEOs idiots too??? It took TWO brave young (Buzz Cut, Knuckle Dragging Badge Monkeys) to manhandle a 78 year old man. Cowards is more like it.
It’s well past time for LEOs to revisit their oath of honor - On my honor, I will never Betray my integrity, my character Or the public trust. I will always have the courage to hold myself and others accountable for our actions. I will always maintain the highest ethical standards and uphold the values of my community, and the agency I serve.
These two need a severe refresher course.
This old man was arrested to make a point. No honking allowed.
