Maryland Gov. Hogan will not run for Senate

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) will not run for the Senate, rebuffing overtures from senior Senate Republicans who had sought to put another seat in play during the midterm elections.

At a press conference Tuesday, Hogan said he had considered a run but that he ultimately concluded he should focus on finishing out his second term as governor. Hogan is term-limited and cannot run for reelection this year.

“I will not be a candidate for the United States Senate. I sincerely appreciate all the people who have been encouraging me to consider it. A number of people have said they thought I could make a difference in the Senate,” Hogan said. “I don’t aspire to be a United States senator, and that fact has not changed.”

“I plan to run through the tape and finish next January,” he said.

Hogan called Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Tuesday to inform him. Hogan said he had also spoken with Sen. Rick Scott (Fla.), the chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, and Sens. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) to tell them he wouldn't be running.

Sounds good in theory but what has changed about the broken election corruption? Nothing as far as I can tell.

He’s gonna run for Resident.

That POS and others of his ilk, commonly referred to as RINOs should do President Trump and all America-First patriots an enormous favor, renounce the GOP and join their Socialist cohorts in the ‘rat Party.

It’s Maryland. You put up with Hogan just like Democrats put up with Manchin in West Virginia. Hogan is so liberal that he would probably vote no on Kavanaugh. 50/50 on Gorsuch. But we can’t be picky in Maryland. Same thing in Massachusetts. If we get 6 years, it’s a steal.

He’s gonna run for Resident.

He lives inside the Beltway so he probably gets told from his 'rat friends that he has a shot. But really they want to remove him as a threat to their seat in the Senate in '22.

Good. We need to push RINOs out of the House and Senate.

I would generally agree with that as far as him being a placeholder (like Susan Collins in Maine) - but Hogan is and has been just totally over the top to go out of his way to attack the GOP and would do far more damage than good. Collins doesn’t go along with us a lot and criticizes other Republicans but it isn’t like what Hogan does.

Hogan would be more like Liz Cheney, an useful idiot. Collins is a RINO but I haven’t heard her of being an useful idiot unlike Cheney or Adam Kinzinger (who may be trying to get a job at CNN or MSNBC as a “token conservative”)

Most likely.

Republicans from liberal states misread the national tea leaves all the time. He would be a valuable senator, but he thinks his brand of MD Repub will resonate outside of his state, and once again, it will not.
