Even the old Soviets of the Evil Empire were usually on their best behavior when foreigners came to compete in sports events. They tried to have good PR when it suited them. China doesn’t give a hoot.
It would be interesting to see how many foreign “top-ranked” athletes are “carted off” into isolation (in their gulag) due to (unverified) Chinese Covid tests,
and how many mid-rank, easy-to-beat athletes are carted off,
and how many Chinese top-ranked athletes are carted off.
Wonder what happens to a chinese athlete competing if they test positive? Do they get the gulag hotel?
The competition should have boycotted the games. This is not Jesse Owens in 1936. The Nazis sincerely believed that they were supermen and would win on their own merits. Jesse Owens proved them wrong. A mere untermensch beat them, and there was nothing they could do about it. The Chicoms are trying to rig the games. They are worse than Nazis. This was a huge mistake.
